Question about pre-orders if you used a bank card

Post » Wed Aug 10, 2011 2:55 am

For some reason, the money I used to pre-order Skyrim would go back into my account, and then come back out, and today I check my online banking and it makes it look like I never pre ordered, it says how much I have when I know I truly have way less than that.

Is this fluctuating as well for you?

Just a note; don't use a debit card for online purchases. If you can, cancel your preorder and do it again using a credit card.

A check for funds was ran, which passed, then a hold was placed and then removed

Note, this is just my guess

Did you ask Best buy and/or your bank if the pre-order went through?

Whats weird is that when I click on the number my bank says I have, it shows that I have 64.34 (Skyrim price) less available and show my true amount, so it is not like my order got lost or anything, I just dont understand why my bank makes it look like I have more money

@Top killa: No but I may have to

Yup, that's a hold. That's what holds look like. The money is still technically in your account, but someone told your bank (in this case Best Buy) that they are supposed to be paid some time in the future.

Ya you are right, right on the front of my receipt: We wont charge your credit card until we confirm availability at your store

i.e., Just a tad early to charge :D

thanks everyone for the responses :tops:

I wouldn't know how it works with your bank, but I seem to have separate number that specifically states how much is held or reserved on the card, but not charged from the account yet..

Why not? If you're worried about fraud, then set a up a second account, and only transfer money to it when you need to make a purchase.

If you pre-order something but don't have enough to pay for it later, you may have to pay an overdraft fee. Though they may just charge you all the money upfront if you pre-order online, not sure.
