Question about Windows 7's start menu

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:17 am

I have been using W7 for months, yet I have no idea why this is so.

Why are the "recent programs" in the start menu random or what? In the attached pic, there are five 'recent' programs, three of which I have not touched for weeks, yet they are listed there? And each time I boot up, the list changed, showing some programs that I have not touched for months.

I would try this before you say there are no solutions...

I already know about that option, I just want the list to be correct.

It is an issue sometimes. You can use CCleaner and I think it is User assist history that if you clear it the counters get reset. So then the recent program list will get reformed by what you use. Sometimes though Win7 will throw things in random orders, say you play a game alot, but then use another program much more the program will go up on the list. Then randomly when clicking the game it will shoot to the top of the list.

Just a bug and can be ignored. You can right click the item and remove it from the recent list if you want but it doesn't clear the number of times used so if you run the the program it can end up back in the same spot.

Why so hostile? Maybe he'd like to use the list, but can't because it won't update with the programs that he wants it to?

That program can be used for many legitimate uses. As for whether or not he is, I have no idea.

It isn't an admission of piracy though it is? All it is a program that allows you to download pirated software. Just like having a gun allows you to kill people with it. Same as a internet browser really :)

Um, a torrent program doesn't have to be "just piracy". They can be a way for friends to share pictures and files etc....
I also think recent programs is the last few programs you have used (at least, the top 2 or 3 are) Even though I've got microsoft silverlight in mine (wtf is that?)

According to the notice in the Post your Desktop thread, Moderator note: screenshots that display icons such as Limewire is an admission of piracy.

It's Microsoft's product-response to Adobe Flash.

It's still piracy.

And by the way, not all torrents are piracy.

Anyway, I'm reporting this closed before anything goes further.

Everything there is fully customizable. You do have to right-click and fiddle around a bit, but if you want that totally blank, you can do so. You can designate what you want to always be there and you can clear the list of recently opened programs displayed.
