Question on dogs

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 6:11 am

I found this dog named Meeko and was wondering if you could just have him stay (or any dog for that matter) at your home. When you tell it to go home it goes back to where I found it.

I'd like my wife to have company when I leave for two or three days of adventuring...

If there is a particular dog that does go to your home, I'd like to know which one. Thanks.

There isn't. If you tell your dog to wait at your home, it goes back to home base after a certain time has elapsed. I can't say how long, cause I don't konw.

Dogs are cool but a lot of trouble. I'd like a mod that lets you have a pack of hunting dogs that you can command. Easy mod, actually, you have a dog pack you can buy, and a whistle. Lose a dog, buy a dog. Equipping the whistle gives you a list of commands for the pack

That's actually a great mod idea

Dogs are a great idea but a pain. I had one following me but it got killed realy easily. Shame.
If you make it 'wait here' at your home, Im not sure how long it will stay there. But if you tell it to 'go home' it will go back to its original home.

It s easier to keep meeko at home
bring him there and tell him to wait

the game warn you when he want to go back home
go to your place you will see him leaving slowly
tell him to follow you bring him back home

this doesnt work with vigilance... you can t bring him back

in the worst case meeko return to his shack
but when using stay here inside your house,
he ll stay there many days, maybe weeks
when you visit from dungeons you can use *follow* then *wait*
and it will extend his stay another week

I hope they fix that in a patch
I would like one dog per house
keep company to the housecarls

Thanks. I'll try that. For now he's back at his old home.

Only problem with your solution is he'll always stay at the same spot in my home. I would have liked if he could move around the house, knock things over, pee on my dragonscale armour mannequin, things like that.

is it possible to ressurect a dog as a zombie or thrall? that would be pretty neat, and then you could always keep him alive as your thrall, right?

I used to bring Vigilance around with me, but I had to kill him  , in order to get through a doorway. I miss him, though, lol, and his body is still in the same spot.

Is there any way to bring him back, without being a zombie dog?

I heard that if you have a follower blocking the way, you can sprint to push them out of the way. I haven't tested it extensively, but it seems true. I do not like followers because they bump into me and block the way.

For those on PC who like Meeko, there is a mod that will let you change his home location to any of the five original player homes that you already own. I think it's called GIve A Dog A Home. I have him living in Hjerim, where he hangs out in the kitchen and mostly lays on the rug in front of the fire.

Even with that being his new home, he doesn't really wander out of the kitchen, I think maybe it's because his original home is so small that he's not scripted to move around much. But I like that he's in the house and I can go see him and he's not underfoot all the time. And of course if I want him with me elsewhere in the house (or even wandering around the city, or anywhere, really) I just have him follow me again, and if I need to release him I tell him it's time to go home and he goes right back to Hjerim.

Without mods I think the max time a dog follower will wait for you if you use the Wait command on them is 3 days. I know people who keep Meeko in a player home or other location without the mod, they just make sure to go back there at least once every 3 days and redo the follow/wait bit so the counter resets.
