A question on Enchanting

Is it worth using lockpick enchantment? Doe's it make any big difference to you chances of opening locks if you have 100% lock picking enchantments?

I usually find or buy a 40% lockpick ring or necklace, which I keep in my inventory for emergencies. I've enchanted a ring with lockpicking before, but then I ended up never wearing it. If you have enough lockpicks you will get every lock open eventually. I probably only used the fortify lockpick jewelry or potions, once or twice on a Master locks.

So, yea, it's rather useless and it's not making a huge difference, in my opinion.

I wondered about this. What does it mean 40% easier? Does it make the wiggle zone 40% wider?

The picks don't break as easily when using the enchantments (don't know if it is the wider sweet spot or what), just like if your skills go up, but going over 100 does not offer much benefit.

I put them on my gear even with my Lockpicking skill at 100 (no perks). I don't think makes the sweet spot wider, but it may prevent picks from breaking as much because I pretty much only break them on Master locks, but not every time.

The gear does not make your skill appear to be over 100, but the wording of the enchant is "Lockpicking is x% easier." it doesn't say "+10 Lockpicking Skill" so take that for what's it's worth. :P

Thanks for the advice, I think there is probably better enchantments I could be making. :ermm: Maybe Bethesda will add some open lock spells in some DLC.

Probably. I just don't use Fortify Stamina, Fortify Health, Fortify Carry Weight, etc because I don't want to get used to them while wearing certain gear and then not have them when I change out of them so I have to put a 2nd enchant on my stuff and the Lockpicking one seems least useless. :P

I've since been on nexus and got a open lock spell, which seems to be more appropriate for my mage. I just wish Beth would give us more freedom when it comes to role playing, a warrior should be able to bash open a flimsy wooden chest. And Mages should be able to unlock chests with magic, leaving lockpicks to the thieves.

Lock picks are cheap, just buy any you happen to see for sale and kill lots of bandits - you should have plenty. Unless you are astoundingly bad at lock picking you can put those enchantment slots to better use.

I have 800 lockpicks. Why would I need Fortify Lockpicking.

At least it was 800 lockpicks a few months ago. I don't know how many I've got now.

Don't waste an enchantment slot oon lockpicking. Just enchant a ring with it that you can carry around. Same goes for pickpocket.

It's not about the picks, I've got hundreds. I mean it's about the roleplay, Bethesda go on about RPGs but they take out the roleplay. If I'm a mage I want to be a mage, if I want to use lock picks I would play a thief. I'm just glad I'm on the PC so I have a choice in doing something about it. It's just a shame Beth took all the good bits out in Skyrim. :ermm:

I personally woulnt waste an enchantment on lockpicking. go pickpocketing instead - every fool in skyrim carries a lockpick, you can end up with hundreds.

You can always carry spare gloves with whatever enchantment you want.

This. I used to leave my alchemy/smithing gear at home, but then later I learned that I could use robes and clothes to enchant. I have 5 items that weigh (0.5 + 0.5 + 0.3 + 0.5 + 1) as little as 2.8 weight units for both alchemy and smithing. Nice to have the freedom to do crafting wherever you go. I also carry a bunch of other enchanted clothes and jewelry.

This is the ticket. Browse the inventory at Radiant Raiment and buy all the gloves, shoes, boots, shoes etc. They even sell a few unenchanted cowls.

Yep. Especially Gloves since they are not super common as loot.

Plus, I never sell Gloves or Circlets - I store them all. I finally duplicated my Gloves of the Pugilist and Disenchanted one pair. Then I made Gloves of Heavy Boxing ("Gloves" with Fortify Carry Weight and Fortify Unarmed) - no armor rating, but they only weigh 0.5.

I carry several rings and necklaces on my chick with various enchants on them for different scenarios.
