Question for AMD users who use Radeon Pro

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 12:42 am

I just installed the Radeon Pro application in an attempt to fix the annoying problem of screen jitteiness and object shaking in Skyrim when I am indoors.

I didn't see any mention when installing Radeon Pro if it's necessary to disable AMD Catalyst Control Center. I wonder if both programs do much the same thing (though RP does more) and if having both running in the taskbar might cause conflicts.

I also wonder if there any commonly agreed upon RP settings that are especially helpful for Crossfired 6970 cards?

Finally, do folks who use Radeon Pro disable Anti Aliasing and Antiostropic Filtering within Skyrim's settings and let RP handle it?

Thanks.

Edit-- I am now running Radeon Pro with vsync settings enabled and sadly its not helping reduce the jitteriness of objects indoors in Skyrim when i get close to them. Ugh.
Anyone got any ideas?

I use to get that micro stutter with my two 6950s. Applying a framerate limiter alleviated that problem. Honestly, I have no idea why the limiter fixed the problem and vsync did not. But it works and I'm happy.

Also, I don't use Radeon pro because I installed it once and didn't find anything useful. If you find anything good, please let me know.

What framerate limiter did you use? I do have MSI Afterburner installed b/c it came w/ my MSI 6970 cards, so maybe there is a limiter on that program.

I tried windowed mode and performance was even worse. No object shaking but every few frames there is a stutter. Goes away when I am outdoors in wide-open spaces but happens in any cities or while indoors.

Sadly, after disabling windowed mode and going back to fullscreen, that stutter every few frames remains, along with the annoying object shaking when I am close to them while indoors.

So now, even with Radeon Pro vertical refresh set at 60, I am suffering from a hiccup every few frames and this object shaking. Urgh.

I think when I next run the game I will disable Crossfire...though I would think that a single 6970 card might choke at 2560x1600 with settings on ultra and numerous high resolution texture packs. At least I have ugrids at 5, though.

I use that MSI afterburner 2.2.0 beta 10 that has the framerate limiter built in.

I'm using the Beta 10, can you tell me where to find the option? I cannot see it.

I think you go to the MSI settings>Monitoring>active hardware monitoring graphs.. scroll down to frame rate and apply the OSD option and mark the box that says "show in tray icon". From there that jet icon appears in the tray. Click on that, then click on the crescent wrench, then adjust your framerate limit.

Yeah, that's sort of complicated and i'm not sure if that's how I did it, but I do remember having to fiddle around with it for a while to figure it out. Let me know if that helps.

Thanks mate i found it, I enabled the OSD & created a profile for the TESV.exe, Top right is a wrench which contains the framerate limit settings, set to 58 fps & it saves to the TESV.exe profile, All is beautiful, Thanks for the help.
