Question in magic system and spells

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 4:41 pm

Hello,

I am a bit confused by the system.

I want to know whether the spells are getting stronger the higher level i reach? For example "Flames". On the internet it says it does 8 damage, but in my spellbook it says 10 damage points.

And, does it do more damage on level 30 than on level 10?

Or is it always the thing that higher spells (Expert, Master or such) are stronger than the low-rank-spells such as flames?

sorry for my english,

Best Regards from Germany ;)

Could there be factors affecting the damage of your spells such as perks?
I know illusion spells get a boost if youre a vampire and you can make all spells more powerful against undead with the necromage perk.
Spells do not increase in power just by levelling though.

They only grow in strength via perks and (in Vanilla flavoured Skyrim) potion effects. That's why the first mod I installed was the one that swapped potion and enchantment magic effects boosting Destruction damage, and modded in high level perks further increasing spell damage (in lieu of a quest that applies a gradually increasing magic damage boost depending on current skill ranks...?)

Basically flames does base damage of 8 pts but if you put perks in augmented flames it will do 25% more damage (2 more 8+2=10) which is possibly what you did. And then 50% if you put another point in it.
So if you buy other spells with a higher base damage they will always do more damage than a lower level spell. There is a spell similar to flames called wall of flame (or something like that) that can be used exactly the same way except it also puts the ground on fire as well. It is an expert level spell and can be purchased from Faralda at the College in Winterhold when your skill in destruction reaches 75ish.

Thank you all for your answers :)

Do I have to use certain spells to increase my Destruction-Level? I don't understand on which factor it depends on, because my Destruction-Level hasn't risen for a while..

Use destruction spells in combat (when red dots are around). I don't know if destruction staff use counts toward the destruction skill.
