Question to medics.

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:45 am

I play medium medic about 90% of the time. Usaully late night I just jump any game and have a go with strangers. Yesterday I was playing with a bunch of guys and I was the only medic.

Needles to say between buffing and reviving I was constantly low on pips. The whole game I would hang back and buff whoever I could and revive teammates going for the primary objective.

During the match a few guys were getting angry at me for not reviving them when I had no pips.

My question is. When a player is down and the only medic around has no pips left what do the players see on there screen? Does it show wait for medic (1medic) or does not give you that option?

The whole match I was trying to explain that I could not revive you right now (for the third time for one complainer). What I am thinking is that they are looking at the scoreboard and see my name as the only medic and expect immediate action.

Any thoughts?

no indication for them that you have no pips. They just see your medic symbol and your range away from them.

My friend plays as a medic. I've only played with him as a medic and he gets pissed a lot because people complain that he isn't reviving anybody. A good suggestion is to play in a match where you can chat so it's easy to say, "Hold on, recharging pips"

Also, 1 medic in 8v8 is not good. You can get by with 1 medic in 5v5 but I would suggest 2.

Randoms can be annoying, this game is best enjoyed with friends/people you know.

It shows a giant Medic logo wherever you are, which lets the downed player know the directions of all Medics, and if you have the "revive teammates" objective selected, your logo shows up as yellow instead of white, and it gives a distance indicator to go with direction.

They can't tell why you're not reviving them. If you have a headset, talk back, otherwise, message them back. If you're on PC, there's in-game text chat, otherwise send the player a message via your console's standard messaging service (probably the same way they're complaining to you).

Actually if you dont have any pips or for some reason you cant revive them, the medic sign for them will be white, while medics that can revive will be yellow.

I am a light Medic. You have to let them know when you're out of pips. But another suggestion is to not buff as often. Rather, focus on saving pips for revives when you get to choke points. Since you're a Medic, I'd also like your opinion on something too. I have all the Medic abilities including Lazerous. The only one I regret getting is Share Supplies. Do you have Share Supplies and is it worth having as a Medic in your opinion? Like I said: Its the only one I regret getting.

i think people only see the medic sign. It would be helpful if the medic's sign turned red when they're low

Cool. I was under the impression that it was based on the selected objective. Good to know.

Also worth mentioning again, even though it's been said before - If you only have one Medic, your teammates are idiots.

If you are just hanging around with no pips, you are being totally useless to your team. When that happens to me I will run in with the people I give the last of my buffs/whatever to and try to clear out people stopping them from doing the objective. Two things can happen when you do this: you get the objective done, and will have time to regen your pips while moving to the next objective, or you die, and respawn with a full compliment of pips and are helpful again.

Hanging back and helping is a good strategy for a medic, but if you're out of pips, you become more useful in combat than hanging back and doing nothing.

have you got all the perks to increase your pips? i seem to have loads as a medium medic. i tend to buff at the spawn (about 3/4 guys) then i save the rest for the action, depending on how it is panning out.

Yea I play a medic all the time as well and yea we deal with idiots who except you yo revive them when there is 5 enemies around them shooting at you and when you do tell them ur supply meter is empty they get upset. my response to them is usually stop dyeing so much. so people just dnt understand thats so frustrating when your playing with strangers and they do not understand at all

nice.. I had people in a match last night making a few comments. Mind you, this was when I was on my engineer (prob go Engi/Medic after I max out my engi skills) and I switched because apparently no one else wanted to. lol

It's good to know about the white/yellow icon. I'll have to check on that when I'm on another char.

On my medic, I didn't purchase "Share Supplies" that seemed like a terrible trade off to me.

Also, what obliviondoll said.. they're idiots.

What is your opinion on the ability Share Supplies? Also, how did you setup your Medic? As a Medic I have all Universal Abilities, All Medic Abilities including Lazerous Bomb, then I have Operative Cortex Bomb, Engineer Light Turret Mine and Soldier Cocktail. Was this your strategy, or would you recommend something else?

I was wondering how long it would take for a topic like this to be posted lol.

I wouldn't worry too much about randoms complaining... in fact the first person to complain because I'm out of supply pips would never get another revive or buff from me.

I often play as a medic and I run into this time and time again. Solution? It's simple, tell them to stop dying. Some people just don't get it.

Just to add my $.02, As a medic, I find the transfer supply ability to have been a waste of points. I rarely, if ever, see someone asking for supplies, plus I'm usually down to 1 or 2 consistantly.

What is the purpose of transfer supplies? I can't even envision a tactical scenario where I think, "Hmmm, it's probably better to give this away than to, say, revive somebody or buff their health."

I would imagine there's a purpose since it's a skill they put in the game, but what that purpose is, I do not know.

As for being out of supplies, I've never noticed this indicator color change you speak of, but I think that should be more clearly communicated within the tutorials or challenges so people understand what's going on. I would've never realized that if you hadn't said something. And I always feel really guilty about being out of supplies even when I'm throwing rezs out left and right, like it's my fault my team can't stop dying.

As for the other skills, I've really enjoyed using Adrenaline on engy's and operatives trying to do objectives. There's really nothing like watching the other team in a futile attempt to kill an operative as he gets that last few % hacked and then keels over dead, presumably with a big grin on his face. And then he probably explodes, as I've been told that's a thing they like to do.

I have another question though... Metabolism.

I tend to buff health when we're making a push on offense and use Metabolism when we're on defense in a reasonably defensible position. It seems like if we're hunkering down, it's more beneficial to recover faster from damage than have that extra one or two pips of health. Writing that now, I'm not even sure why that logic makes sense, but it has seemed to work OK when I've tried it. What do you guys use Metabolism for, if anything?

Finally, while I'm covering every single skill... I totally understand the use of the sprint speed buff, but to me it's a bit of a waste. I'd rather get a few people to the objective as a group, with buffed health, than have a couple of people arriving there faster and either having to wait for more backup or getting gunned down. Or us all getting there, but I have no supplies left to rez by the time I arrive. It just seems like you have to have been killed and respawn with enough people, that all actually wait for you to buff them, for the few seconds you shave off to be all that useful. Has anybody seen this be a major boon to winning?

Agreed. I never bothered getting it myself as I do not see the upside. I feel it's more important to have supplies and keep someone alive or revive them. I feel like it's more of a soldier ability than anything.

A soldier with scavenge and transfer supplies would make sense. It just doesn't seem to fit the role of the medic, I never want the medics to be giving out supplies to other classes.

How about "everyone's already buffed because we have three Medics, but our Engineer has no supplies and his turret just blew up" - that sound like a good time to do it?

It's REALLY situational, imo, so I'm not buying it for my Medic, but I can see ways a Medic could use it - generally only when your team has lots of Medics though...

Fair enough, I could see that being a somewhat useful scenario at that point... but that's too situational to the point of not being worth it, in my opinion.

Something like Adrenaline, while completely situational, at least has a very specific and possibly game changing use. In other words, I think it's worth the skill point for what it can potentially do.

But is one extra supply for a teammate, in a statistically unlikely scenario, really worth a skill point? To me, it's so not worth it that I can't understand what its intended use was supposed to be. I agree with obliviondoll's scenario being a possibility, sure. But that just seems like it'll almost never be the case. And even if I was sitting there (as another class) with no supplies, it's most likely better for the team that the medic sits on full supplies waiting to re-buff when we take damage or rez us than to give me a turret or an extra grenade.

Medics have plenty to do, so I'm not complaining or anything and I'm just going to avoid taking it. But it seems, to me, like the most useless skill in the game.
