Question on souls and enchanting

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 2:44 am

Hi, I just started lvling enchant a bit and was wondering if it the captured soul itself still is important as it was in Morrowind (and I think Oblivion). Back in Morrowind it was quite important to get the best souls for the best enchantments (Golden Saints). Is this game mechanic still part of the game?

Oh, and is still possible to trap souls of conjured creatures? In Morrowind at least it was a good way to have a never ending supply of the Golden Saints souls as you were able to cast a Golden Saint and then slay it for its soul.

It is important to the strength of the enchant for most enchants. Some, like waterbreathing, don't care.

No, you can't soultrap your conjuration.

Stronger souls = stronger enchantment

You can no longer soul trap summoned creatures.

Damn, I really liked those exploitable mechanics for 2nd or 3rd playthroughs. Is there any data on which souls are the best?

Thanks for the answer. That helps. Are there any differences within those soul levels? Anything above level 37 is a grand soul, but would a soul from a level 50 monster be stronger than a soul from a level 37 one?

nope, grand soul is a grand soul is a grand soul.

even black souls from humanoid are grand in size, they are just much more plentiful than creature based grand souls.

Can you trap the soul of a Dragon? I have not tried that yet.

You absorb them when you kill them. That's the only trapping possible for dragon souls.

Human souls are, morality issues notwithstanding, the best for enchanting.
