Questions about fast travel

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 1:30 pm

Am I more likely to get "random events", such as dragons, if I fast travel more than on foot or horseback? I have just created an Imperial Dragon Slayer who travels on horse to get around, however I have heard that fast travelling to areas generally leads to more random events. Is this true or false?

Logically, every cell I enter puts me at risk of encountering some sort of random event correct? So it would be smarter to travel to destinations rather than Fast travelling, or at least I think haha.

I would say it's six in one hand half dozen in the other. I've recently started to travel everywhere (unless by carriage) and seem to encounter just about the same amount of dragon attacks as I do by fast travelling. Random events are higher, because I'm actually traversing the land. As for actual statistical data about fast travelling vs. on foot, I've not seen any that is definitive one being higher than the other. I DO seem to get a dragon every time I enter Roirikstead. Not sure what the scaley beasts see in that little village.

I usually get that when I go to riverwood and winterhold.

My biggest worry is that I will receive less of a chance if I travel, I'll be happy if the chance isn't different :P thanks for the help.

Here is the thing with Dragons. After a random period of in game time, the game decides it is going to throw a dragon at you. Once that time has passed, you get a spawn. Fast Travel uses up game time, so you will frequently see the spawn after fast travel. (This is why I save before traveling to a city or town, if a dragon shows up, I reload, then travel somewhere else to get the dragon spawn there).

However, that spawn would have shown up after the same amount of game time, it just takes more real time if you don't fast travel (think about it, it makes sense). This is why it seems like Fast Travel spawns dragons.

Now, to answer your specific question if horseback fast travel spawns more or less dragons. I don't know if the travel time between places is changed if you have a mount in this game, but if the horse requires less game time to pass, then that would spawn less dragons when you arrive.

This is a great technique to avoid cities to become empty of people.

Not so sure about your theory. I've had multiple dragons spawn, just fought two elder's, after fast traveling and I've also seen static dragons flying around a mountain that remain there until I go into their area and kill it. There's a few of them in game that I've let be and they are there every time I go back to the area.

There are static placed dragons in this game, and spawn points. For example, Word Walls and Dragon Priest Lairs typically have a dragon at them. Those dragons do respawn after a period of time too. What I am talking about are dragons that randomly spawn in the game.
