Questions for a Noob

Oh gawd, where to start... I'll save you guys the intro and just jump right in to this. If it helps, im currently at Lvl14, using a Guns/Stealth character if were strictly speaking combat.

  • What is the safest way to Jacobstown?
  • Since I lost ED-E and Boone, should I drop the sniper kit? I'm using Arcade and Rex as of now.
  • Is there a chart that tells me the recommended levels to fight each enemy?
  • Have I outgrown Ratslayer (lvl14), and should I move unto another sniper? Or should I stop with snipers?
  • How do you use the Flight Simulator in Nellis?
  • Tips on keeping Arcade and Rex or companions in general alive
  • My Recon armor is at around 20% condition but it still gives me bonuses. Should I repair it and what exactly will this do?
  • If you had 22,000 caps, what would you do with them?
  • Already asked, but can I remove a perk? I want Friend of the Night gone for reasons I posted in my first thread.
  • Motherloving Cazadors. Head, wings, and choice of weapon?

I will think of more newbish questions to annoy you guys with later.

What is the safest way to Jacobstown for a Lvl14?

Just follow the road.

Since I lost ED-E and Boone, should I drop the sniper kit? I'm using Arcade and Rex as of now.

Sniper Kit? And how'd you lose them?

Is there a chart that tells me the recommended levels to fight each enemy?

Not that I'm aware of. Just give them a try, and if you die, reload a save and come back later when you have more levels and better gear.

Have I outgrown Ratslayer (lvl14), and should I move unto another sniper (perferably THE sniper)

You should always be trying to use weapons that do more damage than the one you're currently using. Don't immediately dismiss a weapon simply because it doesn't look proper for a sniper (like being scopeless) - just shoot it a couple times at a wall and see how it is first. Give a Cowboy Repeater a try, for instance - it's fast and damned accurate.

How do you use the Flight Simulator in Nellis?

I've been wondering this myself.

My Recon armor is at around 20% condition but it still gives me bonuses. Should I repair it and what exactly will this do?

Repairing the armor will have it block more damage. Armor will block the maximum amount of damage it can at 50% condition.

If you had 22,000 caps, what would you do with them?

Either buy better weapons or armor if they were available, or fix what I currently got if the armor wasn't at least 50% and the weapon 75%

Mother f-ing Cazadors. Head, wings, and choice of weapon?

Head, Sniper Rifle, VATS!!!!

1. Road worked for me, ha.
2. Sniper kit is the easiest and safest to use. Keep it for this character.
3. Have you not heard? Wiki is the word:

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Portal:Fallout:_New_Vegas

4. Lvl 14 huh? Go buy a sniper rifle with a silencer mod. The rifle and silencer can both be found at Gun Runners, located by Freeside EasT Entrance. There is also a sniper in Camp McCarran. Make sure you repair this though. A good repairman is Mick inside Mick and Ralph's. They are the 2nd building to the right once you enter the Freeside East Entrance.
5. You don't, I believe.
6. Stimpacks and don't engage them in battle too much. You can have them wait anywhere and you'll still get the bonuses they provide.
7. Repair it! Go to Mick. Location above
8. New Vegas Medical Clinic is located due Northeast East of the Freeside East Entrance. They sell implants to increase SPECIAL attributes. That is where I would go.
9. No, at least not on console.
10. Cazadors. When long away, any rifle and go for wings first if the gun is weak. If you have a high chance and a good gun (like the Sniper I mentioned above) go for head. Close up any automatic or pistol is good and clip the wings if you don't want them to touch you, head shot if the gun is strong and they're not at full health.

I used the front door, so to speak: kept the path in sight but went up the slope on the right: there's bighorners there (IIRC), but I find them an easy kill for good meat.
Where did they go? :( They are my faves: as a stealthy sniper myself, I keep them around - but that's the beauty of the game: play as you see fit. All I'll say is I find Rex a pain when he jumps in front of my bullets!
Not that I know of, sorry. Best tip I can give is to save whenever those red blips appear, and if you get wasted, try another route/tactic.
I'd stay stick with snipers, if that's where you've plowed your skills and perks. The vairmint rifle with all the mods is pretty good until you find an actual sniper (Gun Runners is good for that). I love my sniper rifle with add ons though, so I'm biased :P
You can't use it as far as I'm aware.
Not sure about Rex (I don't use him - he's annoying), but better guns, armor and some stimpaks in their inventory for them to use at will is a good start. You could also try telling them to hang back instead of charging in, although it's been said on the boards that they will often ignore your commands anyway. Stick to what they're best at - so for Arcade, that would be energy weapons I think (you can usually ask them).
Repairing armor ups the amount of DT (damage threshold) you have - the better condition the armor, the more it protects you.
I would buy a sniper rifle (in your position, as it seems you don't have one), or, if I had a lot of luck points, go gambling and get a bit more cash!
Nope, can't remove perks (not on consoles anyway, not sure about PCs).
Wings, always. I tend to use a carbine (forget which), and take Boone along - he's a great shot :)

[Edit] Crap, forgot about implants - a good investment, especially if your strength is low and you want to carry on with a snipe rifle, as it is affected by your strength.

Depends, kinda. I'd go head with a sniper and decent guns skill (around 75 which is req. for gun anyway.) as long as the percentage was high. Right now I love hitting the wings and messing around with em though :disguise:

RAWR! Okay, a real sniper it is then. Miss 'ya Ratslayer. Although the Gobi is more of my type. But the max Lockpick I can get as of now is about 78 so...

What about my close range gun? Will the 10mm do for now or should I upgrade to a .50cal SMG/Shotgun?

Rat-slayer is still useful for lower level enemies, especially with sneak criticals like your built for. I arrange my weapons counter clock wise depending on the level of enemy and current build/character. With your build it would be; Rat-slayer, All American, Silenced Sniper, Gobi Sniper, Anti Material Gun. Inserting your own preferences accordingly.

I used the Ratslayer up to level 24 on my last play through. It was always in my arsenal because its ammo is extremely common and it's a great way to quietly dispatch small enemies from range.

I have used a silenced sniper before, but I'm not a big fan of it. I just let Boone have it. My problem was that when going against smaller enemies like ants, cazadors, etc. I was spending high dollar ammo on something that didn't take that much to kill. Now I use the Ratslayer all the time, hell I took out all deathclaws in Sloan with it. I murdered half the Legion camp with it (and all of Cottonwood Cove). If you can't get the job done with the Ratslayer, perhaps sniping isn't your strong suit. With ED-E's sensors and Boone's spotter abilities, the Ratslayer is the most formidable weapon I owned for quite a while.

The only reason I switched over to the silenced sniper at level 24 was because I got the Hand Loader perk and was manufacturing the high damage JDP rounds for much cheaper than I could buy AP and HP rounds.

After reading your post, I would suggest:

Drop hardcoe; try at an easier level.

Do the hardcoe higher level thing on your next run through...it will be a different game and require you to have a different character base.

[*]What is the safest way to Jacobstown?

Follow the path, it has some longhorn bulls and some mantises but no cazidores if you follow the road. You just have to follow the road north of vegas then the path into town.

[*]Since I lost ED-E and Boone, should I drop the sniper kit? I'm using Arcade and Rex as of now.

Sniping is still usually your best option. And "lost" how? unless boone leaves you because you're working for the legion you can get them back. Go to where they spawned or the lucky 38.

[*]Is there a chart that tells me the recommended levels to fight each enemy?

Not that I know of, because they spawn dynamically. They'll increase their levels within a range to meet yours.

[*]Have I outgrown Ratslayer (lvl14), and should I move unto another sniper? Or should I stop with snipers?

a fully-modded hunting rifle is pretty brutal, the AMR is arguably the hardest-hitting gun in the game

[*]How do you use the Flight Simulator in Nellis?

You can't, sadly.

[*]Tips on keeping Arcade and Rex or companions in general alive

Unless you're on hardcoe mode they're essential, they can't die. On hardcoe, order them to use stimpacks when they're hurt, and try to take point yourself. Rex loves to charge, so set him to only attack once you have, they should focus on you. If it works, companion tactical AI is highly buggy.

[*]My Recon armor is at around 20% condition but it still gives me bonuses. Should I repair it and what exactly will this do?

The more repaired the item the higher the damage resistance (DT) it provides. Repairing your armor constantly is utterly essential if you hope not to get slaughtered by enemies with fast-firing low-damage weapons.

[*]If you had 22,000 caps, what would you do with them?

Buy myself the subdermal armor implant. +4 DT is huge.

[*]Already asked, but can I remove a perk? I want Friend of the Night gone for reasons I posted in my first thread.

Not without the console, which disables earning acheivements.

[*]Motherloving Cazadors. Head, wings, and choice of weapon?

Something fast-firing and high-damage. Shotguns do a treat. you can wing clip them, but I prefer just to shred them before they get close enough to start targeting body parts.

So I figured I should just keep the Ratslayer and have a AMR/Sniper on standby incase i'm going up against Deathclaws/Cazadors/Power Armor.

Good choice. Why wear down your expensive guns shooting geckos etc.? Varmit rifles are a dime a dozen so you can repair Ratslayer endlessly for free. (as mentioned before, only repair when it hits sub 75%. It is silenced so you can sit on a hill and pick entire communities to shreds with it. That thing was made for headshots. (see comment below)
My current 'courier' is level 28 and STILL carries Ratslayer. That quadruple bonus for crits with it is hard to beat. Add to that the fact that ammo is cheap with several types available for purchase/load. What's not to love? High AP cost, I guess.

I just recently picked up the hyper-awesome YCS/186 Gauss Rifle on my way to Jacobstown to fix up my dog, but I am kinda missing the Energy Wep0n skill to use it... by 50 points. So I am just wondering if I could have Arcade Gannon use it since energy weapons are his thing. Its near perfect condition and has enough power to decapitate an elephant. I gave it to him once, but he didn't equip it, but I figure its because I gave him the wrong battery cells.

If not, i'll just trade it in for a sniper that replaces the Ratslayer.
