Questions from a new player

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 11:14 am

I play on the PC and hardcoe Mode.

1. Are stimpacks addictive?

2. When I started the game and slept in a bed my HP didn't regenerate. However, sometime between leaving Goodsprings and getting a house in Vegas that changed and I could sleep in a bed and HP regenerate. What happened?

3. Does a high Perception actually improve accuracy?

4. Does having your Guns skill at 100 actually negate the benifits of Gunslinger and Commando?

5. On hardcoe Mode are the amounts of things reduced? I made it all the way to Vegas and beyond (@Lvl 10ish) and have yet to find a vendor selling anything better than the Service Rifle (i.e. Carbines), have I not reached a high enough level or is this because of hardcoe Mode? Stealth Boys? Mod kits (i.e. Silencers, etc)? Armor?

I haven't found jack! I found maybe two pieces of Leather Armor no guns, no ammo hardly anything. Enemies I kill mostly have .357's, 9mm's, Single Shotguns and on the rare occasion a Caravan Shotgun.

6. Can the Marksman be used to repair the All American?

7. Referencing question #5: I want the All American. I've seen the walkthrough (YouTube) and have a general idea of what to expect. I have no confidence that I can make it there and back with: a Service Rifle (@150 rnds), 9mm(@100 rnds), 10mm (@100 rnds), 2 RadAway, 3 RadX, 6 Purified Waters and 6 Simpacks...oh yeah and a Space Suit

I need guns...where are they?

I can answer 1,6 and 7
Stimpacks are not addictive
yes it can
you should be fairly ok Id get more radaway and a bigger gun.
A good amount of guns can be found at "gun Runners" and if you cant afford them, break into the compound kill the guards jack their armour and weapons to either keep or sell for a high amount of caps

5. The higher your level, the better the loot. Complete the easier quests to get some experience and raise your level, as you level up check vendors and new places, you will find better weapons.

1. No.

2. No clue. Maybe it has to be a bed you "own" AKA a bed you can get the Well Rested status from.

3. The game suggests it does, but there is some debate about it.

4. No, think of it in terms of your accuracy at range... you now have the maximum accuracy at range based on skill alone, the Gunslinger and Commando perks just add on to that for increased accuracy at range while in V.A.T.S. mode.

5. Vendor gear and enemy loot will scale with your level, for example, I couldn't find a sniper rifle for purchase until just before level 20. Also, hardcoe mode doesn't influence your loot or make the game necessarily more "difficult", it adds immersion by forcing you to actually have bodily functions (water, food, sleep)... the only thing you don't need to do is shower and use the bathroom.

6. I assume you mean the Marksman Carbine, I've never tried to be honest (I use Jury Rigging) but it's the same rifle type so I would assume yes.

7. Most of my lowbie gear I acquired by curb-stomping enemies... not until about level 15-20 did I take the time to actually purchase a quality weapon, which is around the time I took Jury Rigging so I don't have to pay for repairs or find a "rare" weapon to repair my weapon of choice with... I repair my sniper rifle with silly things like Service Rifles and such.

I hope these answers are adequate. :user:

Vendor gear and enemy loot scale with your level... I would imagine vendors have a "loot table" that randomly refreshes, depending on your level certain things will have the chance to be a part of a vendor's available stock or it's just outright added to it. Same goes for enemies, they probably have a loot table that coincides with your level... this doesn't mean at level 30, Powder Gangers are going to be running around with sniper rifles and miniguns since it probably maxes at a different level for different enemies, but the idea is the same. :flamethrower:

Hope that makes sense. :whisper:

1. No
2. In hardcoe mode, only player owned beds heal
3. No.
4. No, as accuracy still drops off. I think, anyway.
5. No.

Weird, Powder Gangers always use the varmint rifles and dynamite while Fiends always use Plasma Rifle, RCW, pool sticks and stuff.
I've never seen an enemy have loot which mirrors my lvl.
Maybe that's just me not paying attention though but all generic enemies always have the same weapons to me.
But Legion and Fiends have more variety in the weapons they actually use though.
Still doesn't feel very scaled.

3. I know Strength affects accuracy. You have to have enough Strength to use weapons. I think it's listed in the Pip-Boy on the weapon. This is something I had to deal with because I like the Heavy Incinerator, Missile Launcher, etc.

That's exactly what I'm saying, Powder Gangers (for example), are probably locked into that loot table, Fiends too. A better example might be the Super Mutants at Black Mountain, if you go in there at a lower level they generally have Rebar Clubs and maybe some Assault Carbines... :gun:
Go in there at a higher level and they're rockin' LMGs, Incinerators, Miniguns, Super Sledges, etc.. :flamethrower:

All depends on the Player Level vs NPC Loot Table equation, IMO.

Hmm, got it.
Wish they had better scaling actually.
Get's kinda "meh" since you start to memorize what weapons enemies use.
And that some weapons no enemies use at all like GMG or Multiplas.
