Questions from a noob. (or can i do these things?)

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 4:32 pm

So, im new to Bethesdas creation kits and wasnt able to locate any concrete data confirming that what id like to do is possible.

What i would like to do is create my own world to play in. My questions are as follows

1) With the Creation Kit, is it possible to rebuild the overworld to fit my needs? Would i be able to create one from Scratch?
2) If possible does it generate its own overworld map similar to Skyrims? or is there something in the Kit that will allow me to do this?
3) how much control over NPCs appearance do we get within the kit? (IE Can i make typical fantasy Dwarves?)

Thanks in advance for any help/answers you guys can give me!

Well, yes, you can rebuild something or make it entirely from the scratch. As for map, if you mean the ingame map it is automatically generated. If you want your place to be seen on the world map you need to place a map marker.
As for your dwarf NPCs, in the kit you can change what armors they wear or weapons, but if you want to make a specific model, you'd have to do it in an external program such as 3DS Max and then import it.

Awesome thank you for the answer!

Just so that i feel like i have a full grasp on what you mean by "Automatically Generated" are you saying that if i build the world from scratch (IE completely new terrain) that the engine will dynamically generate the world map?

if so that is....mindblowing.

Not sure about the world map, I know it builds the local map.

There's a mod on the nexus, one of the top-10 DLs, last time I looked., that adds roads to the map.

If the author is on these forums (or you are a member of nexus) PM him/her, they probably have a better idea of how the map works than most.

However said person is making a "classic map", which makes me think auto-generation is not the way the original map was constructed ...

... like I say, thoiugh, get in touch with that author.

As for your other questions ... see the answer above (but note, you are looking at masses of work)

The map is a lower level-of-detail mesh of the terrain ... which I THINK there is the possibility of auto-generating.
But you can also, of course, make one manually.

I don't know much more than that.
