Quests to avoid?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 9:44 pm

Just wondering if there are any quests NOT worth doing.

Ive put in 200 hours on my first play through and barely got halfway done with the Main quest, or Civil war quest. Thieves guild glitched on me an I never got to meet Karliah @ the stone. The White Phial and a few other ones did as well but overall I was pleased with it 300 quests an only 5 or 6 glitching is good for me, but I was wondering if anyone came across any quests that where a complete waste of time, money, resources, or not worth the reward for the risk?

Im on my 2nd play through and would like to avoid anything not worth my time.

Im a warrior/mage dark elf.

any must do quests are welcome as well thinking about it

I say most if not all of the randomly generated fetch quests.

The Fed Ex quests exist just to get you map points for fast travel. I usually do them if I'm heading that way, and sometimes they lead to something bigger. Thing is you don't know.

The steward of Whiterun and the Companions both gave me a radiant quest at the same location, Halted Stream, at the same time. I picked up the Transmute tome there, which I think is scripted to be there, and also picked up Meridia's Beacon, which is random, so it was worth it. Another "bounty" also took me to a word wall with a dragon.

I'm never going to do Arniel Gane's radiant quest for the College of Winterhold ever again. Complete waste of time for the "reward" you get and to top it off, from what I've read he's supposed to at least talk to you at the quest conclusion but he glitched for me and never is active so I can't talk to him at all, he just stands there like an idiot. How that moron ever got a line on where to find an ancient artifact you'd think the Nererverine put under tight control or at least hid away REALLY well is the big unsolved mystery for this quest.

The absolute best part is that this quest is not exactly a short one for someone like me who uses fast travel very rarely and walks/rides nearly everywhere. Like many quests, it seems to have been designed to work best for someone who teleports all over the map just following the quest markers. Ugh, never again.

All of the quests are worth doing to a degree for experience, meeting new people, coming across new things and locations, although the money or reward may not 'worth it' after what you have done. Ive enjoyed all of the quests I have done, major or minor. I have only come across one glitch and thats the thieves guild and I cant progress any further with that until a patch fixes it, which is annoying as I play a sneaky character!

Don't do the main quests. They ruin the fun

One thing ive found so far on my secound run is that if the leave going to see the greys up the mountain you get a very low dragon spawn rate.

For me this question usually comes down to whether it is worthwhile for my character. As a character trying to be good and a hero, certain quest lines don't really make sense, like the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves guild (just as Shivering Isles weren't worth doing to completion for my Oblivion character). But that doesn't mean the quests aren't good, just not appropriate.

I haven't found any bad quests, even the fetch quests. I just wish the companion AI wasn't so brain dead. Really brought Blackreach down to have Lydia refusing to move from some spot time after time. I'm guessing the pathing in Blackreach is particularly problematic for companions.

Must Do Quest:

Septimus Signus - Discerning the Transmundane - Awesome reward, awesome area - Blackreach <3 (I went into Blackreach with Vorstag and really had no major issues. Now, I did loose J'zargo in a dark corner of Alftand :()
Back to your Roots (Turn in 30 Red Nirnroots - nice reward! Duplicate Potions!)
Dark Brotherhood quest line! I do that every time! (well, one of my toons wiped them out lol)

Well, those are the ones that came to mind immediately. Very memorable and fun quests.

The quests I think are so BLAH, are the repetitive Thieves Guild quests. UGH Boring and tedious. I wish I could see to which city they are sending me, before I accept them. Oh yea, I would also avoid the FEDEX quest (the author in Windhelm, who wants you to deliver a book for example. That guy should just take the carriage and travel to Solitude himself psh lol Or finding books for the Mages Guild)
