Quick Question About This Area

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 2:37 pm

I'm going to be working on a mod here shortly and want to get some information. What exactly does the RELz tag mean? Know that the REQ= Request and the WIP means Work In Progress. Also do people prefer mods to be on the falloutnewvegasnexus or do they mind if I post it up on my own site? Worried that posting it up on my own site will deter people from DLing the file. It'll be a straight link to the file and won't be a link on a web page on my site.

RELz = Release

The z is because the search engine on the forums will not accept previously did not accept terms less than 4 characters, which is also why you'll see REQz and WIPz.

This shouldn't be too much of a problem. People will probably trust files uploaded on the Nexus page more though.

I must say, however, that NV Nexus has a nice file setup.

I'm curious as to why you want to put it on your own site. Nothing wrong with it, just wondering.

The search engine has been able to search for [REL] for a long time - since Morrowind, if I remember right. I never did understand why people added the random 'z' - I suspect it was because one person who either posted a big mod or several mod threads did it and everyone else figured it was expected or because people assumed the search software couldn't search for [REL] without actually testing it.

*In a deep voice* My files will maintain their purity by being uploaded to the site of cleanliness. :P *j/k*

*serious*

Personally I just upload to my site since it's just there and i'm not using up that much bandwith. Instead of bogging down the falloutnexus site with the files of an unknown modder I rather put them up on my site. Maybe when I get some downloads and feel that my project is worthy of being advertised a bit more to the general public i'll upload it to the nexus site. Maybe consider this a closed beta scenario with limited release for testing.

Already drawn up major plans and feel that I can "Possibly" put in a more unique crafting system similar to other RPGs where you have raw materials, sub-components, components, and main materials. One thing i'll also be looking into is changing the actual food/water items so they have more unique effects in HC mode. However that project will be incorporated at a later date with the crafting system being my main focus.

On a side note I did find something interesting poking around the weapon files with the Weathered 10mm pistol. Apparently it looks like developers were intending to add in the ability to upgrade the item with a silencer, extended magazine and a laser site. However models for the item were never created to begin with which is why we see the square/triangle thing with the exclamation ! point. The only *Fix* I have in mind for this from what i'm seeing is to go to the mod section and select "None" on all of the mod options. This will prevent the gun from being modified by the stuff similar to how the unique items like the Ratslayer and La Lounge Carbine aren't modifiable.

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34794 My fix was to swap out the Weathered 10mm models that don't exist with the default 10mm models, then change the textures to the Weathered 10mm ones

Not surprised really just started poking around in the GECK about 4 or so days ago so that thought had crossed my mind. Biggest thing that's crossed my mind and kept me wondering is if i'm too late to start modding for FONV since alot of people have already jumped on the proverbial bandwagon. However I haven't seen many people dealing with the crafting system so i'm taking a stab at that. It seems relatively easy enough, but once you start delving deeper into the files it produces more unique results.

Hopefully today I can release the Alpha version, but that's if everything goes smoothly.

Don't worry about being "too late" or anything like that. I'm pretty sure at least some of the most talented modders for Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3 started modding farther after the release date than you are right now. And you really shouldn't worry about "bogging down" the Nexus sites or anything. There's already plenty of (For the most part) unknown modders on there, no offense to those guys. And considering that you can easily sign up and upload files straight away, I don't think they mind if someone who isn't well known uploads something.
