Quick question or 2

Why can't I pick up the shovel I found, actually how the hell do I use a shovel?

So, who decided to play hardcoe mode? I did :)

GT- Chrome Gnats (add me if anyone would like.)

Edit- Oh yeah, when and where will I get a house?

I bought a shovel from a merchant in Goodsprings. You can use it to dig up graves and as a melee weapon.

Thanks for replying.

I checked the merchant, he didn't have one :(

I guess merchants inventory is random?

You don't have to do anything to use the shovel. Once it is in your inventory, it will allow you to dig up graves and such and find items.

Spoiler
There is a shovel right at the start of the game, near the 3rd water pump (if you did the training).

You can get a house in several places in FO:NV, depending on how far along you are in your quests.

Spoiler
There is a room you can rent in Novac for 100 caps. If you are looking for something similar to your Megaton house in FO3, then once you make it to The Strip, you can get a Presidential Suite in the casino there.
