Quickbar please - 8 hotkeys not enough!

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 7:54 pm

Hey gamesas. Love you guys, made best game of the year easily. Now can you please please pretty please make a quickbar for PC players? I understand you optimized the interface for console, but after playing RPG games for 15yrs+ on the PC, 8 hotkeys just is noooot enough for me :( I am used to having every spell I need on 1-2-3 quickbars that I can access by either 1 mouseclick or [ctrl/alt - 0-9]. It's really annoying having to constantly go into my menu and select my item/spell by pressing up/down.

SKSE is out, so a Skyrim verison of the "Expanded Hotkey and Spell Delete" mod should be in the works (if not released already).

I looked around. Their is a SkyUI mod that improves the inventory interface, but none for a quickbar :( The inventory UI isn't that useful either cause when you buy/sell items it reverts back to the old one, which is the main time you use it. It is convenient enough however, to use in combat, so I can use all 8 buttons for spells and just press i when I want to use a potion.

Hm. Is it worth spending 3-4 days of my 2week xmas holidays learning flash and hacking together my own quickbar or not...

What I don't get is whyyyyyyy didn't gamesas have a PC option? It would have probably taken them 1-3 days tops to make a fully functional one optimized for kb/mouse! D:

First person games have always svcked on console UI-wise. It's the whole reason XBoxLive / PSN don't allow cross-play, the PC guys won easily every time when they were testing.

Why should PC players have to suffer just cause you guys are happy spending 90% of your combat time in the pause menu.

This has more to do with the keyboard and mouse is much faster to aim with, not talking about box select and similar you do in strategy games.

On the other side Morrowind had 10 hotkeys, Oblivion and Skyrim has 8 however the lockpick is automatic and the probe is removed.

Main request is a block key so you can block without an shield or two hand weapon.

2 hotkeys!!! Ouch. That's gotta hurt.

Strange how they kept the hotkey limit to 8, the same as Oblivion. Only 8 could fit on the hotkey spell display so kinda made sense there but they could have at least assigned all numeric keys for Skyrim.

Cool story, bro. I'm playing on a console and have two hotkeys, and I'm perfectly fine. God, PC gamers are such whiners.

Intriguing anecdote, my fraternal brethren. p_o

You think you're fine, but you're not. A good UI, in addition to letting you play a lot more efficiently, also makes combat a lot more /fun/. It's always nice being able to cast spells right as you think of it while still on the combat screen.

If PC/XBL allowed cross play I could have easily shown you in a 1v1 game like Halo or something.

Guess it's a playstyle thing - I've been playing PC games for decades, too.... and I've still got no idea what people do with all those quickbars and/or how they keep track of them all. (Even in WoW, I don't really use beyond the basic 1-9, I click everything else. Doing the whole "ctrl-alt-shift-F5 to use Esoteric Skill #43" thing has always been beyond me.)

But I suppose I can see where people who do think that's the way to play games, would miss having fourteen billion keybinds in games that don't have them.

(currently in Skyrim, I'm using five or six of the hotkeys. But it's a sword&board character who only uses one or two spells and a bow. I can see that a caster could probably want more.)

Two hotkeys would be fine, if each key equipped a set to both hands.

No need to be PC elitists. I have the PC version as well as the Xbox version, and I find the controls with a controller far preferable to a keyboard.

I'm glad for you. But to call PC gamers whiners because we're used to or prefer or would want more hotkeys?

I played on the old machines with a joystick and 1 button. If Skyrim came with only 1 hotkey or even button function, that does not mean I should call console gamers who want to make use of the buttons available on controllers whiners.

I think this is a textbook example of the phrase "Ignorance is bliss."

You have two hotkeys and your happy, but likely only because you don't know what it's like to have 8 or more hotkeys.

I have my sword, shield, bow and several spells hotkeyed. I can switch between them on the fly during combat without ever having to pause my game with that silly Favorites menu. It makes combat more fluid and more enjoyable.

Cool? I have the PC version, as well. Whenever I play Skyrim on the PC (basically when I am away from home) I never use more than 4 hotkeys, and two of them are for two different potions. I'm perfectly content with going to the quick menu to drink potions on the console.
