My race never suits my play style?

I always like to play as the 'stealth races' but always tend to play sneakless archers or warriors...anyone else do anything that contradicts their race?

Same here. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b148/ActionDragon/Skyrim/Fish-Breath/Fish-Breath131.jpg is always a heavy Argonian warrior using heavy armor and two-handed swords. Definitely not sneaky.

Frequently. My first character was an Argonian fire mage, the second was a high-defense Breton warrior, and I'm planning on a stealthy Altmer assassin next who specializes in poisons for my next play through.

Same was true in previous games, including an Altmer warrior in TES III and a Redguard conjurer in TES IV.

First morrowind toon was dark elf, then wood elf, started as thief but ended up sword/board conjuration god.

Oblivion went Redguard for the Rush
Went Redguard again in Skyrim, the graphics are kinda boring for RGs, should have went Elf

Races aren't exactly bound to one archetype, an Orc can be a succesfull Thief, a Khajiit can be a heavy handed warrior, a Nord can be a mage prodigy and a Breton can be a barbaric. . . Barbarian! There's no real limit to what your character can be.

Also that's one hell of a gut your Argonian has, Monkeyismad.

my main in OB was a Khajiit archer.

my skyrim main is a wood elf in the companions, my secondary skyrim characters all break the mold so far too. I have an orc monk who doesn't wear armor and doesn't use weapons, a high elf stealth assassin (granted, he relies heavily on magic still), and I have a heavily armored, katana wielding dunmer berserker who likes to set himself on fire before rushing into battle.

Yeah, I generally don't really care about racial abilities vs. what skills I'm going to use on a character. I pick more by how I want the character to look.

Racial abilities and skill bonuses aren't really that big a deal. Weren't in Oblivion, either.

Anyone else breaking the mold? I find characters that break the mold the most interesting as they're most likely characters that are roleplayed instead of powerplayed. I think it's great that the game doesn't force a race to only be a certain archetype.

Orc Monk sounds like an interesting character.

It's my character, and it's nothing compared to my Oblivion character. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b148/ActionDragon/Oblivion/WhatAHero1.jpg

I do go against the race's 'prefered archetype' on quite a few characters.

just started a new one: an Imperial pure thief, trying to see how far I can go using only stealth skills, those invisibility pots are coming in real handy, lol.

Well, my thief is a khajiit, but so are my spellsword and berserker too :hehe:

But i play "out-of-stereotype" characters so much that is has become stereotypical  "A khajiit mage? Oh, how unusual and exiting "

I play an Imperial pure thief. I am leader of the thieves guild, restored their glory, and level 24. I like only using stealth skills it's fun.

how have you been handling combat situations? I've been mostly playing a game of avoidance so far, making lots of invisibility pots and trying to get my alchemy and pickpocket up. have been able to utalize some environmental hazards like bear traps and oil slicks to my advantage too. have really needed to be observant of the environment, which keeps it pretty interesting and slows the pace down a lot of the time, lol.

things were much simpler on my high elf illusionist assassin because i could make the badguys kill eachother without much direct intervention.

The game requires a lot of sneaking, which is always awkward when you are supposed to be a heavy armored warrior.

I did play an Orc in HA that I tried to charge into battle with all the time, but it's so hard to pass up those times when you can get a sneak kill.

I'm a Breton who rarely uses magic. I use archery and sneak.

So true. I just can't pass up a good sneak shot, so my battle-axe wielding Breton has gotten pretty good with a bow. I haven't put any perks in Sneak or Archery but I still can do quite a bit of damage.

Races matter less in Skyrim than other TES games, my Orc is a fully capable badass warrior, a super sneaky assassin and a effortless healer, racial archtypes are now a thing of the past.

I usually take characters that match the races strengths weaknesses, but... those cats look awesome in heavy armour! If I do ever play a cat I might make him a heavy warrior.

Also, that fat Argonian rocks, I'm seeing him all over these forums recently. I've no idea how you make a fat character.
