[IDEA] Radiance: A Simple Immersion-Booster

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 7:42 am

Make sure to give it the condition that you at least played up to the point you know about the Circle's affliction - don't want it spoiled early, especially since the dialogue later would sound very odd if you already knew.

Of course. :)

Fecking awesome ideas, all of them, I really hope you to release this mod. Really. Thanks in advance only for the idea.

Edit: what about the posibility to pass the DB contract once you get to be The Listener? And having to hire by yourself some more crew?

That will depend on how Radiant Story handles persistent NPCs, but that sounds like it may be beyond the scope of this mod.

tavern brawls!

Added to the original post. The implementation will depend on how brawls are handled by the engine, though.

Great ideas so far. :)

Wandering Vigilantes of Stendarr that give quests to clear a random dungeon of daedra worshipers, vampires, and other unholy beings would be pretty cool. Quests to hunt vampires and werewolves in random locations on the world map would be nice as well.

Added to the original post.

What's missing? A chance to join the Silver hand and wipe out the Companions.

This would be cool, but beyond the scope of this mod. I think the discussion in this thread is more what you're looking for, though I see you've posted there already. :P

This is one of the concepts I am most excited about. Between PISE, Creatures Alive and this mod; the game is going to be amazingly fun to play through.

This is great stuff, I hope it gets implemented.

A random encounter of Blades recruits fighting Thalmor might be another idea.

What about something involving racism? For example it bothers me that I'm perfectly safe being an Imperial among patriotic Nords in Windhelm while the war is going on. Say there's a small chance of a gang of Nords attacking you at night in a secluded part of the city, or once you've left the city? Or a tiny chance of being framed for a minor crime? Admittedly some people might not like these ideas; they are not without their flaws. Just a thought though.

This please! Racism/speciesism is part of the ESV world, and making more of it for gameplay/immersion has to be a good. Another example would be the chance of an attack by random thugs if the player is an Argonian in Windhelm, an NPC says at one point that Argonians are not allowed into the city.

More generally I think there's loads of really good ideas in this thread, but I would prefer the additional radiant 'incidents' to not include any dialogue so that the additional events blend seamlessly with vanilla stuff. I'm sure lots can be achieved without dialogue through the use of courier notes, letters found on bodies etc. For example, i love the deserter idea. How about the deserters' actions are dependent on your apparent threat, if you have low level equipment and without a follower they see you as easy prey and attack. If you have high level stuff, or with a follower, they flee. Deserter groups could be visually distinguished from regiular troops easily enough e.g. they have a mix of military and ordinary clothing and not all have weapons.

All the ideas sound really awesome, but does anybody know if this would be able to be done. As a matter of fact is it possible to make radiant stories? Does anyone think/know if that would be possible....
If so; hallelujah, cause that would be freaking awesome and open up a whole new world for questing mods

With the CK, I cannot see why not.

How about a mission after you become head of the Dark Brotherhood wherein, similar to the "Ghostblade" you find a Ghostly Gag that you can apply to Lucien Lachance's creepy ever-pvssyring ass, thus attaining a small measure of peace and tranquility.

Adding to the first post!

Fantastic racism, yes. Adding the 'framed' bit, but handling it differently. The player won't receive a bounty, but the guard will demand a fine. The player can use Speech to get out of it, or, if the player is a VIP (like a local faction leader or renowned Dovahkiin or somesuch), they can call the guard out and humiliate the guard for picking his target so poorly. (I.e., how dare you try to frame the Arch-Mage?) This is regional, so you're most likely to get picked on as an Argonian or Dunmer around Windhelm, and the Jarl of Winterhold's men may not take kindly to mages. Khajiit are picked on everywhere.

I agree in principle, and whenever possible, I will avoid using new dialogue in favor of notes and recycled dialogue. However, some of these scenarios will probably require some new dialogue or strain immersion. In those cases, I will choose silent dialogue over NPCs saying nothing and carrying silly notes.

:P I'm not sure this request belongs in this thread. (Do people actually use Lachance? I've summoned him a total of 4 times, and the only time he was actually useful was when I had to run away in a hurry and needed a distraction.)

I would be shocked if it can't be done, but stranger things have happened. Still, Bethesda has a history of giving us excellent modding tools. Once we get the CK later this month, we'll know for sure.

Glad to hear your replies. If it is possible to use the radiant system in mods It could lead to some really nice quest mod oppurtunities.
(btw is there a spellcheck in the forum? I'm not sure if i wrote "oppurtunities' correct :P)

Indeed! And if anyone has more ideas, I'm all ears. I've only had time to play Skyrim about an hour a week lately, but I'm hoping I'll at least have time to play with the CK.

You should talk to the fellow who made "Wars in Skyrim" if you need any help on the actual implementation. as this seems like a more specialized and sensical version of what he is doing. Anyways, I whole-heartedly endorse this and will be making sure that if this is out by the time my new faction is done, it will not only be compatible, but add in extra features for people who use both.
