RAGE 2 in development: Official PS Magazine

Post » Sat Sep 10, 2011 1:04 am

According to the details in the rumor section of September 2011 edition of the Official Playstation Magazine Italy, id Software has already started the development work on RAGE 2, the next game title in the post-apocalyptic franchise. This is really surprising considering the fact that RAGE has not even shipped to retail yet.

In an recent interview to Industry Gamers, John Carmack remained coy on the subject of RAGE 2, and only said that at present the development team is adding final touch to RAGE and is psyched for what we’re going to do in Rage 2.

John Carmack stated, "I’m very much looking forward to… everything’s pretty much baked in Rage right now. We’ve got several more weeks to polish everything and get feedback in and do our final bits of polishing, but I’m psyched for what we’re going to do in Rage 2, how we’re going to really play up some of the aspects that it turned out weren’t our bread and butter, previously but added to the game. There’s a lot more we can do here that’ll make it fun. I’m looking forward to working on the other id Tech 5 projects. And we’re in research for id Tech 6 graphics, content development…yeah, I’m super busy,"

Check out below what rumor section of Official Playstation Magazine Italy SEP 2011 read:

"The first entry is not even out yet, but you can bet your bottom dollar you’ll see the post-apocalyptic Rage 2."

What you guys think about it,

Now makes me question the length of Rage & what they might have left out if we are just getting a teaser a small chunk that being Rage 2 being the major chunk

Maybe I'm reading into this to much but if they release Rage 2 next year or early 2013 I'll be upset!

I doubt we'll see a Rage 2 so soon but if it was using the same engine it would be possible to crank a game out in two years a host of others have and doing so doesn't necessarily mean anything Rage was in development for 7 years you don't spend that much time on a project just to use as a sequel promotion tool.

Any forward thinking developer would be kicking around ideas for a sequel or their next project at this point, its smart to think ahead start laying out the basics of the story and gameplay, Bethesda did this with fallout 3 before Oblivion was out, the last few months all your creative staff writers and some development heads and others have nothing to do since their work on the current project is done so what do you do you put them to work getting the a new project rolling. Carmac himself said there'd be a sequel depending on sales so starting to work on it now makes sense, if its a flop you've lost little if its a hit your ahead.

Here John Carmack mentions doing a Rage 2 only if Rage doesn't flop!

This, right now their focus is DooM4 and after that we will see Rage 2 but I feel Rage 2 might just be a next get console game by the time it releases or even cross generational

I'd rather they make a Quake 5 before Rage 2 though :)

Doom 4 is already confirmed. Don't interpret this as if the artists have already started working on Rage 2. Rage 2 is probably nothing more than a few ideas and sketches, it'll be years before we will see a glimpse of it.
