I don't know what they're aiming for but once it's official it'll show up at the bottom of the RAGE forum.

However unless id has specifically said they're aiming at a Teen rating it seems more likely that this will be rated Mature.

They said when they announced the game that they were targeting a Teen rating. The most recent trailer shows a bit of player instigated splatter though, which is usually a no-no for T rated games.

It seems like you can paint the walls red with blood and still get a T if shooting enemies only generates puffs of dust, but if blood splatters when the player shoots someone, it's an automatic M.

I think the ESRB rates more for overall tone though. I guess we'll find out closer to release.

I'd guess id has either changed their target rating or ESRB has loosened up on some of this, particularly if the game maintains a lighter mood rather than being, say, Fallout 3. :)

We don't know. It looks like they were aiming for a Teen rating at one point but it's possible this may have changed

Believe it or not, some people actually do follow the rating suggestions.

And knowing ID, I would assume it would jump to M. As Gstaff pointed out however, rating hasn't been determined yet. That's in part because the ESRB waits until they have a copy to play themselves to determine the rating if I remember correctly. Does anyone know more about the rating process? Now that it has been mentioned, I'm intrigued.

I always thought that the ESRB is shown clips of the game, not actually playing it itself. The thing with the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion kinda confirms this, since the ESRB says they were not shown some of the gruesomer parts of it which is why it was originally T.

We haven't had that problem in the Fallout 3 section, I wouldn't worry about it over here.

I want to play a game like this because of the mature content... if I have to mellow my post-apocalyptic blood-lust so a 13 year-old can play this game, it may not end up being a game I purchase, but a one week Gamefly rental instead... oh and Bethesda, you almost got another $60 from me... so close! Of course I bought Oblivion 3 times (dang GOTY and consoles).

Guys. I'm going to fathom a guess against all guesses, a complete shot in the dark... that this is not going to be the first notable id game since Commander Keen with less than an M rating. I'm pretty sure those guys are dedicated to making mostly mature content nowadays.

The trailer looks very dark and mature. I never saw anything about id saying they were targeting a T, either.

It doesnt matter if it gets a T rating. Alan Wake got that rating and still its very mature game.

Dark and mature game doesnt need lots of blood in order to being a mature.

This game will propably be a must buy game. Cant wait to hear more about it.

I know, but it seems like the ESRB takes the overall "tone" of the game and put that into the rating. So at this point in time, it looks mature.

Are you serious? Of course Rage will be M. Since when has id ever toned down the blood and gore and language?

Thanks Id software for made a hypergore game, thanks id software for having prived the younger public of this game !

I have "fight" on many other forums to try to convince that this game had to be for everybody.

Apparently, it was useless and pointless.
Thanks id software !

You got it all wrong well on this game , and I hope that you will realize it at the right time.

You did not need to make all effects gore and ultra-violent!

You listened to people who have no brains and who swear only by the gore.

Ah! I had forgotten that you have an image to be maintained!
" Id software, for the horror, you are in good places ! "

Kick me if you want, i've said what i want to say.

Still thank you id software !

I think they decided to dump there aim for a Teen rating and are going straight to Mature.
Thats a screen from a video of Rage I was watching and its like a bladed-boomerang sort of thing. He throws it at the mutant and the had comes flying off!

I hope it's M, I don't like playing with kids. You parent's, don't let your kids play this so I don't hear a 12 year ask "what is this?" ever again. I'm tired of children playing M game's and then not shutting up the entire game.
