Rage 2 = full rpg

Post » Tue Oct 11, 2011 8:51 am

After going through a few pages of the forums I realized in order for Rage to become a great game to of these newer generation gamers it's need to be a full rpg. I love it the way it is, no complaints here. If or when Rage 2 is released just save yourself the headache and make it an openworld game. Still have yet to beat it so I can't base if there will be a Rage 2 off the ending, please no spoilers. Bottom line people seem to like very linear or very open, anything in the middle is just not doing it. Again I'll say I'm a huge fan of Rage, every minute further into the game I love it more and more. I would love to see people happy and excited for rage but it won't happen for most until you can go wherever and do whatever you want.

On another note I would like to see a patch or dlc that allows us to continue after the game ends. I'd like to stroll around the wasteland with all the things I've worked for. If not then that's ok but the option would be nice.

id will never make a "full" RPG. They make first-person shooters very well.

I see no sense in defining RPG merely as open world. Full RPG games are more to do with advanced skill trees, exploration, crafting, etc than sandbox vs linear. I also don't think you're realizing that id is likely intent on keeping it somewhat of an FPS, since they invented the genre.

That said, for their first attempt at an FPS/RPG hybrid, they did pretty well, gameplay wise anyway. Until you get to the ending, which doesn't live up to what precedes it.

I like the light RPG elements in Rage as it is, anymore than that then I would've just gone with Borderlands or Fallout instead. I like the "what you see is what you get element" to it as in you don't need to be X level to have this weapon or armor. All they need to improve on is more unique weapons and ammo, the vehicle handling (its good as is but it could be better, I'd like to do some drifting as well as other maneuvers that I could in GTA games), and more interactions with NPCs (I'd like to be able to spank those booties), and lastly, more incentive to explore the environment.

RPG players tend to live in a fantasy world. The id tech 5 engine won't work for open world game and id would have to change the entire development team to turn it into an open world RPG. You might as well wait for pigs to sprout wings and fly.

I wouldn't be saying this sentence here right now at this moment if Rage was to be full RPG

Rage:

50% FPS
30% Adventure
10% RPG
10% other elements

Batman Arkham Asylum was not open world, it was hub world, and it did amazingly well in sales and in reviews. Also ID are shooter makers, not rpg makers.

The original Quake was intended to be more RPG-ish... until time constraints meant that they ended up plonking in Doom-style weapons and making it like Doom. The id guys back then were in to Dungeons & Dragons, so I see no reason why they wouldn't do something more RPG-ish.

Personally, I don't want them to go RPG. If Rage had more to do out in the Wasteland (more shooting, random encounters, secret places and what-not) I'd like it even more.

This is my point, they make shooters. I was saying if they have to go against everything they know to get more positive feedback them negative I think it'd be bull. Rage was a perfect mix but for some reason people assume that it should be an rpg when it really shouldn't. I see all these posts saying that rage svcks and you be able to explore a ton more, no you should not, leave it alone and let us true fans enjoy what you intended for us to play. My point is if we wanted an rpg we would play one. People also say it's tooooo short. I'm doing everything it has to offer and I'm
20 hours and still only on the second part of game. People will always have something bad to say about even the perfect game. Personally I think Rage il perfect. I've yet to see the ending but I bet I'm satisfied.

How about same game only with better replay value .. huger world.. you can choose to replaly anything just by going to different areas

how about wepon costumization instead of skill trees... kind of evolve what they already have for custom.. i liked the idea of what they did with this one so much

How about being able to buy mods for yourself etc..............

this does not need to be a traditional rpg but it could be

you know john romero from rome.ro www.rome.ro told me that it is true that doom was inspired from their rpg gaming.. if i remember correctly they in ID software liked playing real RPG games those onb paper ..
like dungeons and dragons.. and doom was kind of inspired by those things.. this might be why rage is something they naturally developed

i dot know how i decided to believe doom was inspired by rpg but i remember there was reasons i thought that

I think they got it tuned about right in terms of RPG elements. A hub city, or cities, with linear missions is fine.

That said, I wouldn't protest if they had enemies respawn in more zones, or added some attribute or perk system in Rage 2. But it will make me sad if they include things like romance options or character housing.

You are 100% right about the enemies. There are none throughout the wasteland. It would have been nice to see a few on the cliffs and roads, that way you can run them over or shoot them. It'd be cool to see them climbing up on mountains.

no i dont want rage to be a full RPG, i have other games to soak up that time and scratch that itch. Rage for me is a big improvment on the standard COD onrails shooter ( yes rage have some onrails elements, but its has a more open world feel to it=

what i WANT from rage 2

- Less linear shooting lvls : multiple paths, secerets
- More back story (ID artists created a gorgeous world, but it dosnt have the lore to back it up). Add things like bioshocks audio log, Biowares Codex.
- Have a more fleshed out story
- [censored] standard MP again and do more coop lvls! unless you can really innovate and not make it to an xp grind fest with boring maps.

Other then that im pretty happy with rage. i dont want it to be and RPG with choices, i just want a solid FPS that has a good story, lore and levels and a overworld to mess around in. Leav to open world RPGs to bethesda, and do what you do well, great Shooters, that has more to it then running to the next check point.

dont you want it to be like borderlands in terms of player distance and land ? and dont you truly want to be able to play it over and over.. going to places and ai getting higher level depending on yours... so you can do like in borderlands go in and take on enemies regardless of if you finished the game or not?

dont you guys want games that last longer? ....

Isn't ANY game an RPG?... I mean, you ARE playing a role... however in the traditional sense I think "rpg" would be more of the Dungeon/Quest type game where you "roll" to play, e.g. Roll[the dice to] Play[ing] Game.

In whatever case, I like the 'more rpg' type element (interacting with NPC's, driving, picking up supplies from vendors) in this case, much more would really distract from the fact that it is classified as an FPS, which FPS > all (when done right, like id always does).

Edit: GAH! This browser 'autocorrect' setting is driving me nuts... damn Apple.
