I was talking to a very famous game dev last night while we were playing on xbox live and we were looking at 2011's game releases. According to Gamestop, Rage is set to release in September 2011 right along side of Gears 3. Now, I happen to believe that Rage will actually be a much better game than GOW 3. I really don't care what Epic and Microsoft have done to make GOW 3 better. The complete fail that GOW 2 was online is enough to make me vomit in my mouth everythime I hear Cliffy B's name....UGHlmp...sorry, almost vomited.

However, there is no doubt that the Gears franchise and popularity will squash Rage in sales....

So, is it smart to release Rage up against GOW 3?

Id---don't even do this, Rage is going to be better than GOW 3, but you guys have worked so hard for so long to have your game overshadowed by the cheesy GOW 3 franchise release.

Id, do yourself a favor, move the release date up to May, June or July----No matter how big your balls are, it would be a career killer to put 7 years into the development of a game that gets wasted in sales in Sept by Cliffy B and his little crew.

Even though Gears is a very popular franchise, I wouldn't worry if I was iD. Of course Gears of War 3's sales are going to be off the charts to no one's surprise. However, you have to keep in mind that it is only available for Xbox 360. RAGE will be available for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC...meaning they will still have a huge number of sales. iD also has a very good reputation which will also contribute to people not hesitating to buy RAGE. Yeah, RAGE would do much better sales wise if it came out some time around July or August but I wouldn't stress over it.

Well, I would like to see some kind of response from Id--I wonder if they pay attention to these forums....There is a gap in games from July to September. There are no games worth mentioning coming out at this time and if Rage can capitalize on an early release, that would be great.

In response to the last post. It doesn't matter if Rage comes out for both consoles if it gets destroyed on one....understand? It won't matter how many PS3 copies Rage sells if they don't sell any on XBOX. They are dumb if they don't remove the release date--sorry John C.--Fire your sales and marketing team ---they are dumb if the release is in September....

I guess you guys could move the release date back another year, that won't piss the fans off at all???

Gears is OBVIOUSLY more popular. Its a trilogy with 2 amazing and successful games, with another on the way. If I were to go out on the street and ask a younger person (who looked like a possible gamer), and asked them if they were more excited about either Rage or Gears 3, I'm betting a good deal they'd say Gears 3.

Simply because its an already well-established franchise. Personally speaking, I don't know which to be more excited about. I'm a HUGE Gears fan, love the characters and story and all-in-all its an awesome and pretty original story. Rage however, holds something new in store. Yes, it is post-apocalyptic, and we're all very familiar wit this setting. But nevertheless, I'm very psyched for Rage. It just looks awesome, and I'm a total svcker for post-apocalyptic stuff.

This thread is not about what game is more popular--This thread is about the fact that Rage is scheduled to be released at the same time that GOW 3 is--I would really like to get some fans on here to tell ID to push the release date up.

Uh, Gears is an established franchise, and I definitely see it outselling RAGE easily.

That said, they are two completely different genres and hardly comparable.

Wow, they are NOT 2 completely different genres....They are both sci-fi shooters--and they both have multiplayer which the hardcoe MP community is paying attention to. all I am saying is that Id has put a ton of work into this game and when it comes time for people to choose what to spend their money on in September, they are gonna choose GOW 3.

And I dont care if Rage is for the PS3 and the PC as well as the XBOX.....It will take the most sales in September, and there will be alot of people like myself who have all three systems available for gaming that will be choosy on how they spend their money. I already paid for my copy of Rage, but I make good money in my career and can afford to buy whatever games I want. The target market of gamers is what 18-30 years old....The younger gamers usually don't spend 150.00 in one month on games.

I'm just telling you....this September release is going to hurt Rage.

First off I'm going to start by saying Gears does *not* have 2 amazing games. Only one, unless youre blind and braindead. That being said these are two games in the same genre competing on the same console (XBOX) I dont care if RAGE had a PSP addition to its marketing target, this thread is about making sure RAGE actually gets noticed which it cant do if overshadowed by Gears 3. The fact that this masterpiece can be ruined by Cliffy B. (sorry if I made you vomit) is sad. That would be like having Lil Wayne get up on stage and have more attention than a real artist like Jimi Hendrix or Rush. Its absurd, I hope the release date is moved to prevent an event like that. I agree NX1000, push up the release date, seriously.

They should move RAGE up to mid August, either that or mid Novemeber... But not all of the way to 2012 if they need to adjust the release date at all...

I'm pretty sure ID is aware of the games being scheduled for release in the same timeframe as theirs. They must be confident of their own game and that's a good sign.

The only reason I'd like for them to accellerate release or postpone it, is so I'd have time to play both and don't have to make choices.

GoW 3 has been postponed until the fall '11 - No one knows (except EPIC) when the actual release date will be.

Here's a few things to consider.

GoW 3 is 360 only
Rage is multi.

Rage is an FPS at its core.
GoW 3 is a 3rd person shooter.
Different genres; hence different audiences.

It could be argued that the demographics for both titles are completely different aswell - Whiney 14y/os Vs seasoned FPS veterans

Also, Batman AC, and a whole crap load of other games are going to be released in the fall, as fall is a good time to release - Should they postpone/bring forward their titles because of GoW?
And.... CoD:MW3 is out in the fall, should GoW be afraid of that?

Rage will be a success, maybe not as large as GoW, but I'm sure Zeni/id aren't quaking themselves....

This can all be prevented if we just spread the word. Word of the mouth can be quite powerful, I mean look at Minecraft...

I'm pretty sure that release date you saw is just a placeholder.

GOW3 will definitely dominate that market. ID has a tendency not to drop too much on marketing and rely heavily on word of mouth but this time i think as it is a new IP they will need to pour into marketing make rage a house hold name for their future sequels to have good sale too.

GoW 3
- dedicated servers
- more RPG elements in the multiplayer
- a faster gameplay
- a hell alot more sick execution so i think this time epic is going to make up for what they did to GoW 2's multiplayer

It doesn't matter which game is better...it matters which one is more popular. Gears 3 is probably the most anticipated titles to be released this year. When a kid goes to Gamestop with 60.00 in hand, (not 120.00), they are going to buy what is popular. I don't like that, I wish sales were based on quality, but that is not the case, people spend their money on what is popular and GOW 3 is going to not only slaughter Rage in sales for the month of Sept 2011, but it will DIRECTLY take sales away from Rage.

You guys are dumb, look at the release schedule--there is nothing coming out in July or August--We had a chance here to get Bethesda and Id to consider changing the date, but you all had to turn this thread into a hate on xbox thread and Rage is better than Gears thread--All that has done is hurt ID's sales of Rage.

Do this, you love Rage so much, as I do, tell them to push the release date up to July and stay away from the on-coming beating they will take from Gears.

gears is only on XBOX....yeah and it will out-sell Rage 20 to 1 in September....If there were 10 console systems that people played games on and if 200,000 people on each console bought Rage, thats 2 million...Gears is going to sell twice that on 1 console. Just keep your mouth shut guy or open it, to tell these guys to push the release date up.
