Rage isn't a Games For Windows LIVE (GFWL) title.

It's a Games For Windows (GFW) which means it is a Windows game. GFW and GFWL are two completely different things.

It uses Steam instead of GFWL.

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1220904-rage-to-use-steamworks-on-pc/ :)

As mentioned above, it's not a Games for Windows Live title.

Before this devolves into being about GFWL, I'll just go ahead and close it.

This is GFW: (not GFWL)
Game software must meet certain requirements regulated by Microsoft in order to display the Games for Windows brand on its packaging. These requirements include:[5][6]

* An "Easy Install" option that installs the title on a PC in the fewest possible steps and mouse clicks
* Compatibility with the Windows Vista/ 7 Games Explorer (see below)
* Installs and runs properly on x64 versions of Windows Vista/ 7 and is compatible with 64-bit processors (though the game itself can be 32-bit)
* Supports normal and widescreen resolutions, such as 4:3 aspect ratio (800 x 600, 1024 x 768), 16:9 aspect ratio (1280 x 720, 1920 x 1080), and 16:10 aspect ratio (1280 x 800, 1440 x 900, 1680 x 1050, 1920 x 1200)
* Supports parental controls and family settings features in Windows Vista/ 7
* Supports launching from Windows Media Center

In other words - this sticker is purely used as a microsoft hype machine - any studio can already meet or exceed these above standards and does not need to have the GFW sticker on.

GFW sticker is completely optional - i do not know what's the point of it for the game publisher like bethesda since it's just hypes Microsoft and spoils the whole cover box art with that ugly wide stupid banner on the top - feels like crappy consolized box (honest opinion)

This is confusing for a reason since many people are misled by the very similar naming. Which promotes and hypes the windows LIVE stuff. It looks identical it's just one word missing and that word is "live"

In other words - GFW is nice to have if the developer wouldn't meet those standards already - a great developer can already have x64 win support and much more resolutions.

ID software was going to support box bit versions already and a great game like this is already very optimized and supported so we won't have issues with selecting resolutions. I can safely gather that this is purely publishing decision to put that banner on there - if my calculations are correct then it should be only ABOUT THE STUPID BANNER - seems like microsoft PAYS to get their hype banner on some games which have nothing to do with their services.

Steamworks normally does not have any self explanatory "exclusivity indicating" logos - but i think it has them on the back - purely as a CREDIT notification and not as a "CERTIFICTION - REQUIREMENT" notification - whihc is not the same and not ENOUGH - that logo should be in the front.

The gaming community must revolt and petition for the rating services to force publishers into printing Steamworks requirement on the box as mandatory - it should be a logo that is SEEN well enough and "shows" the Steamwors requirement on retail and that it's mandatory.

someone should just dig the hole out and sue a few companies forcing steamworks without notification - it's a known problem that this is not made clear enough.

GFW has nothing to do with GFWL, it simply means that the game is available on PC, you'll need Steam for activation, this is all confirmed and is fact.
