Rage loading problems PS3

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 8:23 am

I just bought Rage today for the PS3 but I just can't get it to load. At first it got to 57% and then froze and I had to restart the system, tried many times since but constantly freezes, any help/ideas?

Cheers folks

First, make sure you have 8+GBs free for the Rage install.

However, what you're explaining sounds like what happened to me with Resistance3. I shut off the console while it was installing the game data because a video was playing and I didn't know it was actually installing anything. This corrupted the data and loading the game kept hanging similar to what you are explaining.

The fix was to go into the ps3 cross menu / game data folder, find the resistance 3 data(in your case Rage),and then delete it. One problem I encounter was that it took a long time to delete. At first i wasn't sure it was actually working(deleting) so I tried this:

Fixing Ps3 File system

1.turn off ps3

2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.

3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps

4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.

5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button

6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

7. Select "Restore File System" from the Recovery menu.

8. Agree to restoring the file system.

I think it was option 3 or 4. I would NOT recommend reformatting or reseting the entire system as you will lose all of your data, games, and saves for the entire ps3 system. It will warn you though, so be careful.

Even after I did that, deleting the corrupted data still didn't seem to work and just seemed to sit there like before. I let it go overnight and when I got up the next day and started the system, it seemed to work. The corrupted data file was gone and I could install the game data correctly.

So, perhaps try deleting the data first and let it go for an hour at least before trying the "Fixing the PS3 File System" trick I mentioned above.

The real brett

Cheers for getting back to me. There's plenty of room on the drive, there's only about 5 gig used of the 160.

I'll give that a try though, cheers. It's attempting to install again, it's at 11% after 2 hours, not the best really. The game was a bargain in the supermarket, £7, but it wold be nice if it worked.

I'm afraid nothing worked. Cleared the game data, restore the file system, tried again and got a 8001002B error (dirty/faulty disc) but the disc is brand new and not a mark on it so I can only assume the disc is faulty, if so it'll be the first game disc I've ever had that's faulty in 20 odd years of gaming.

Update:

So, went and exchanged the first copy today for another. Put the disc in, it downloaded the additional content first and then started to rip the info from the disc to the drive. It got to 50% fine before it started playing up again. It's now at 54% and sticking for long periods of time.

So, no further forward. I've read a few people have had this exact problem so why there is no official reason for it is beyond me, looks like it'll be a 3rd visit to the shop to return this copy as well :(

Has no one else here had his same problem?

PS3 slim 120gig up to date system software. 75 gig free.

If the disc is manufactured badly, you don't necessarily see any marks on it.
If possible, try installing somebody else's disc. I had problems like this several times on different platforms over the last 20 years.
Faulty discs are more common than you might expect.

Took it back and got another disc and it was exactly the same.
Cleared game data, restored file system etc. I think I attempted it 12 times, never once got past 60% and constantly froze. Just took it back again for a refund, too much hassle.

Man...That's terrible to hear. Very strange that all of the discs would be bad, unless of course the entire batch from the manufacturer was bad. It almost sounds like the blu-ray player/reader is hiccuping at a certain location since it's always around the same percentage of install. Only a hunch, but maybe the reader is bad and you just haven't discovered it. Seems unlikely, but maybe other games or films don't access similar areas of their respective discs for long periods(such as installing data) and hence has never been a problem for you. Either way it svcks.

I just meant the bluray disc drive, since it only reads data. Good luck in the future though. Hopefully you don't have a bad drive.
