I'm a rage noob

Post » Tue Aug 09, 2011 3:45 am

So i've been watching the trailer and a few gameplay videos from RAGE but i still have a lot of questions about the game.

I'm usually on these forums to check on any Skyrim updates but i'm always in the mood to buy more great games. The storyline of the game sounds cool, and the shooting looked decent aswel, but what else is there to offer? Exactly how open and large is the world?

The graphics also didn't look at good as the ones from Skyrim, but it's still looking decent. As for the shooting, it looked really horrible in the gameplay videos i've seen, but that's just because it's on an Xbox. Shooters aren't meant to be played on a console.

So if someone could give me an idea what makes this game cool it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

You need to make a bit more specific question here ...

I can tell you pretty much everything but put some effort what really you want to know?

And also these forums aren't very high traffic yet because this is a new IP - the core community is just in the early beginnings.

Well where to begin.... Did you play Fallout 3? Boarderlands? Its of the same ilk. If you enjoy roaming a vast area/world map, exploring, meeting characters along the way, picking up side missions, having random encounters, car racing for money & other handy items to help further your game, upgrading your car & character to a certain extent, killing lots of clan members/creatures etc, finding new & better weapons & engineering items, managing your inventory & employing your economic skills. I think that more or less covers it. If you liked oblivion but hated fallout 3, then this game is not for you. However if you loved both of the aforementions games then this bad boy is right up your street! Oh & did I mention muliplayer? Hope this helps.

Oh yea, i loved fallout 3. I liked playing Oblivion more though, but i was really wondering if this game was some sort of a rpg. Do you have to raise levels like in fallout? Or is it just about obtaining new and stronger weapons?

No its not an actual RPG which is unfortunate. You do get to make upgrades on your car but I feel they haven't focused on upgrading your character quite as much. Its not as in-depth as fallout 3 which again is unfortunate. However I do feel its worth playing Rage because despite its faults, I believe Rage still has a lot to offer & it is pretty to look at.

Honestly, I for one am happy this is not an RPG. I love shooters and often love their simplicity. I mean there are RPGs out there, but there are times when I just want to just go blow [censored] up without having to get involved in RPG elements. Granted that this game is not particularly a Quake or Doom like shooter, I still like the fact they stuck to their favorite genre rather than making it a full RPG.

@ownzor - "The graphics also didn't look at good as the ones from Skyrim"

I haven't seen the game 1st hand, but I feel this game will have a pretty solid graphics engine. Partially due to the fact of how much it is optimized for any platform it goes on unlike other engines that end up being either ports or re-writes. id has always been the pinacle of gaming engines, and though now they have competition (unreal, cryengine, source, forstbite etc) they always were top notch when it came to visuals. Not only that, the underlying technology that goes into making the game stunning on different platforms. See this video too http://youtu.be/4zgYG-_ha28

I totally agree with you, one of the things I like from this game is that it's not an RPG. The shooter part and the uncomplicated upgrade system makes me want to play this game. I'm not worried about this game not being long, I don't have much time to play video games anyway so I'm pretty sure it will have enough things to do for me and the fact that it doesn't have the RPG part is awesome for me since I won't spend time tweaking my character but playing the game.

Yeah I am in the same boat when it comes to how much time I can play video games, so I like simplicity and time needed for shooters...anything between 10-20 hrs along with some re-playability = I am happy.

There is noting unfortunate it's not an RPG

ID Software does not make RPG games anyways - they more made this elements which fit into an Adventure genre more than an RPG. Kind of like Zelda and Metroid - which what i love the most.

Funny how ID Software wanted to make games for nintendo at first but they turned down .... with Wii U ... nintendo might beg ID Software to do a launch title on there.
