RAGE - primeraly a console game [EUROGAMER article]

Hello folks,

Here is an article I found posted on Eurogamer.net

I don't have time for complaining about it right now, so I will leave the comments to you guys.

However, I spent a few minutes to make sure that everything important is highlighted.

I am sorry for the dark forecast, but this is what the future of PC gaming will be like, and also here is the evidence what happened to the MAC/LINUX versions of Rage.

"Legendary first-person shooter developer id Software predicts
two-thirds of the sales of upcoming game Rage will be for
PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

That leaves around a third of sales for the PC.

"Roughly," Todd Hollenshead, co-owner and CEO of id Software,
told Eurogamer.

"I'm not in the sales forecast business, and I don't want to be
making projections for the company on the basis of that. But if
we're just going to do napkin math, that's as good as any.

"Maybe it's 70 per cent among the consoles and 30 on the PC,
or maybe 75, 25. But we're still talking two-thirds plus of the
sales being on PS3 or Xbox 360."

Rage, an open world, post-apocalyptic shooter from the
team behind Doom and Quake, launches this October.

The developer made its name on the PC, but times have
changed, and so has id.

Now, games are made with the consoles front of mind
to ensure those versions are up to speed.

"In game development, you have to tailor your gameplay to
where you expect people to play it on," Hollenshead revealed.

"So, while we're developing Rage on the PC, we forbid anybody
from playing it on a keyboard and mouse until we've played it
first on a console controller.

"We pull the keyboard and mouse out and put in a USB 360
controller, even on the development staff. That's not just the testers."

Porting to console from PC is old-world thinking, according to id.

"That was the way we did it in the past. Ultimately, we learnt
that's not the way you should do it.

"We had the discussions early on with Rage about what
platforms we were going to go on. If we're going to expect one
third, one third and one third of sales to be across those three
platforms, so that means two-thirds of our sales are going to be
on console, we're going to make sure we have that gameplay
feel tight first."

I wouldn't say this is a bad thing. The only thing that ID needs to do for PC is make sure that the controls fit the PC, have good graphics, and release a Modding Tool type kit. If they can do those three things then the game will be fine for PC.

id already knows how to make a game with great pc controls, but consoles are new to them. Also they realize that a large portion of the shooter players are on consoles and therefore want to make sure they are happy too. With id Tech 5 they are trying to get rid on any way that a bad port can be made because essentially a game should play equally as good on any platform you play it on. Obviously the pc games will look better and using M+KB will always be more accurate than a gamepad, but they want to make sure the experience is the same.

Don't worry they aren't abandoning pc. We still get the better graphics as well as the dev/mod tools.

It's O.K. if console sales are 2/3,since the actual number of consoles are two.
That means that each platform gets about the same number of sales.
PC gets about 33%,PS3 another 33% and xbox360 another 33%

But I find the whole story with the keyboard and mouse restriction stupid.
It should be consoles that should start getting keyboards and mice, not computers getting controllers.
Especially for FPS games. anologue sticks are terrible for FPS games.

id known as a precursor of PC games in the PC version of rage must be used all the buttons as well as Doom and Quake.
So they say because if you want to buy a good pc gamer would spend at least $ 2000 and for that money you can buy a ps3 or xbox 360 and with many games and this is the reason why all move from PC to consoles

Oh please, you can build a strong machine for $750 easily. Consoles are awful, cheap things and are destroying FPS gaming. Rage is a good example.

A high Gamma pc with monitor 22 'a gtx 480 and 8 gigabytes of RAM and at least I5 and are needed now to play really good games on all high. It clarified that you can never build a pc gamer for $ 750

I do build mine myself.

Parts:
Mobo $125
CPU $200
RAM $100 8 Gig
GPU $300
HD $50

That's all you need. I assume a monitor or TV as you need one for a console too. Oh a case, I'm still using my 12 year old 24" tower, it's on it's third build now.
