The PS3 mandatory install size for id Software’s RAGE has been revealed today by Bethesda’s Tim Willits. Put some space aside for this one.

Speaking with PS Focus at this year’s GamesCom, Bethesda’s Tim Willits revealed you’ll need 8GB free to run RAGE on your PlayStation 3. This certainly is not the 22GB needed to fully install the game on the Xbox 360, but then again, the 360 install isn’t mandatory. Give us your thoughts!

Thats pretty big but to be expected when the 360 install is so large, not a big deal I've got 42 gb out of a 160 gb hdd so I have plenty of space to spare for this and whatever other fall purchases require an installation, my only issue with it is the amount of time its going to take if the installation is all up front were looking at a good chunk of time being unable to play our new game which is kinda a bummer, guess I'll read the booklet and kill some time.

The installation on the Xbox 360 is not mandatory. The ps3 is it mandatory to play. But if you have xbox 360 so I would recommend installing to avoid the pop-in.

Wish it was possible to install more

Actually, I wish it was possible to install 100% of all games on the PS3 hard drive like it is on the 360. The optical drive is the most unreliable part of a console and the less it has to work, the better. Not to mention the hard drive is faster, more quiet and more energy efficient compared to the optical drive.

I too would like an optional full install on the PS3. I'd be prepared to make sacrifices for the best performance possible.
