Rage on Sale Already

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 5:11 am

I wish I'd known how Rage was going to turn out. Now it's $40 on Steam.

I have never seen a major title go on sale so soon and I am a bargain basemant steam rat.

There's a short sale on Steam, because yesterday an asteroid has passed earth inside the moon orbit. It's the largest since 1976 and the closest passing during the last 200 years.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-15572634

There's also a short passage on the real Apophis:
Earth has several regular visitors like 2005 YU55 - most famously the Apophis asteroid. Apophis has in the past been claimed as a possible future impactor when it returns to our neighbourhood in 2029 and again in 2036.
There is, according to the latest calculations, no danger from Apophis either. However, it will pass much closer to Earth on 13 April 2029 - at a distance of 18,300 miles (29,500km).

It's also written on Steam:
At 3:28 PST on Tuesday afternoon we were 201,700 miles from extinction. Breathe easy, play Rage!
Offer Ends Thursday at 4pm Pacific Time.

$40 is still too much to ask for this tech demo. I work too hard for my money and I can't stand feeling ripped off. Being the fan of id that I am, I had RAGE pre-ordered for months in advance. At one point, id said that the game would be +40 hours. Then it was rumored that it would be more like 25-30. I beat the game on nightmare difficulty AND I did most of the side quests and it took me just over 14 hours. It's not just the short duration of the game, either - it has what is probably the worst ending of a video game that I've seen in a great many years. On top of that, the multiplayer is rancid. You'll play it for 20 minutes and probably say WTF. I had the game for three days and took it back to trade in towards Arkham City. I seriously regret purchasing RAGE.

Brink, which was released in May of this year, can already be seen for 10-15 dollars on ebay. :( That is the lowest price for a game released this year I've seen.

Was it Steam's idea to put the game on sale coincidentally as an asteroid made a close pass to Earth or id's?

I'm not sure but I would guess that it's something about Splash Damage financial problem.
Brink needs badly new DLCs but Spalsh Damage dosn't have money to do those and it's not helping if the game is sale everywhere already.
Now they have to wait and see if Bethesda is still intrested to Brink and willing fund them so thay can make new DLCs so we can get full Ark discovered some day.

I think I can already tell the direction Rage is heading by the decline in participation of posters on this forum in the past few weeks or so....and thats bad considering the game has been out for 5 weeks.... :sadvaultboy:

I wouldn't worry bout the decline in posters, cos I can gurantee you that in a couple of weeks I will probably stop being as active and post every now and then. Doesn't mean I like the game any less, just means I'm concentrating on other things. I have a game that I play with my friends whenever I see them called Killing Floor, I used to be quite active on those forums and now I'm not, but I still love the game, I just realised that so little of what happened on the forums was actually payed attention to by the admins and the dev's, it was mainly just a great way to talk to the community about your ideas. When you're chewing on life's gristle, don't grumble, give a whistle, and you'll see things turn out for the best... :celebration:

agree.

it does seems like the more active the community is the more developers pay attention to the game.

You feel safe here. Just have a look at the stickies. There has been no credit card exploits at all. The Steam forum is separate from the Steam store you know.

I think its funny...they wouldn't listen to me when I was posting on these forums a year prior to the release. They had to release Rage up against GOW3, MW3, Skyrim and BF3....dumbest marketing decision ever. Not only that, but because there was no REAL multiplayer like Team Death Match...Id, the pioneers of the FPS failed to satisfy the Quake and Doom fans.

It is sad that Id has become something of a joke in the minds of industry pros. Maybe they can redeem themselves with a new Doom game....7 years from now.

I thought that was crazy too, shoulda pushed it til January or so...and u forgot batman and 2k12 on that list...or atleast come out with a more complete game that woulda created a positive buzz amongst gamers...

It on Sale because the game is a total waste of time. Only glitches, crashes and bugs. Shame on the developers....No wonder amazon sells it for under 20....NOONE should be a betatester any pay. amazon is smart, Bethesda has ruined their good name...

Hehehe. Bethesda is on my black list now and I will never ever buy a game from them again, only after some month when patches are available....

Bad Marketing decisions indeed, here where I live Rage was never reviewed! When I asked the game critic (face to face) he told me It was never sent out to him. Whereas EA/Activision sent him both BF3 & MW3!!
