From the beginning all you know is that you've crash landed on earth with no real clue why, or who you are. It's 106 years in the present, as you have been cryogenically frozen in an " ark " in space. As the game progresses, you're not the only one, as there are many of these arks, though they're mostly underground.
That's all you get for a good chunk of time until you reach the end of the game when a few more mysteries are unveiled. There was a general in the past who changed the date that his pod, and those of his men would re-awaken on earth so he could control the world, as it were. The reason for all the caution by the people in towns you enter along the way becomes apparent because the general and his army, seek to snuff out any other survivors of the arks. You then join up with " the resistance ", which is a few civilians and other ark survivors. You then go on a very anti-climatic crusade to activate a beacon that resurfaces all the underground arcs so that the resistance can then crush the general and his army.
Honestly, I am left thinking " WHAT THE HELL?? ". Unless I missed some major plot content there is A LOT I still would love to know. Such as;
How many people are in the pods collectively?
Why did all these people go into cryostasis? What happened on earth? Nuclear fallout? War? Famine?
Why does it seem your pod is the only one that fell from space?
Where did all of the falurite come from, and why does it crash down from space periodically, and why do some places massive crystals of it springing up from the earth, as if it didn't fall from the sky?
Why is there literally ZERO information about who you are!!! It's like you're playing a freaking robot. No flashback to 106 years ago or nothing!
Where is all this rage? You go to the length of making it all caps, I want to be enraged but this game lacks that. Should we be mad that we were left for dead in cryostasis? Who was the guy was playing? Who were the people in the same ark? What happened? Why should I care about these people?? This is vital information needed to immerse a player into a game, not running around the entire game doing things people want you to do just so you can get to the next area and STILL not know a darn thing about what is going on!
If there was a cataclysmic event that forced the need to go underground and remain in cryostasis for a prolonged period of time, why the hell are there still people on the planet that did not come from arks. Were the arks for military and people in power only?
Why was the Captain of the Resistances' Ark underground but it released him? Why is his ark able to do the things it's able to do? He mentions that " this is what's left of my ark " what the hell happened to it? It didn't come down from space because there's a city on top of it. It sure didn't get ransacked my the enforcers ( the bad guys, I forget what they're called lol ), otherwise it wouldn't work at all I imagine. More importantly, WHY DOES HE KNOW WHO HE IS? Why does he know everything that happened and does not tell you?
Seriously though I am going to stop there because I certainly feel the RAGE. However, swiss cheese storyline aside, this is a BEAUTIFUL and fun game. Regardless of the terrible bugs at launch I was really delighted at some of the awesome scenery. Mainly being underground tunnels where's there's moss and stalagmite/tites and an eerie glow.
