Rainbow Six: Patriots

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 4:57 pm

It seems that the next Rainbow Six game will be called Patriots. Ubisoft registered rainboxsixpatriots.com and rainbow6patriots.com a couple of days ago according to http://kotaku.com/5854531/sounds-like-rainbow-six-patriots-is-the-name-of-the-next-game

Just before E3, sources familiar with the game told Kotaku that the game would try to tell a bigger, grittier cinematic story than past editions of the game. In a plot outline that is damn timely right now, players will battle a home-grown terrorist group targeting Wall Street, angered by financiers' greed and a government that protects it. The game will feature a cover system that takes you out of a first-person perspective and into a third-person view.

Cool I love Rainbow:Six. I hope they use the same mechanics like they did in R6 Vegas 2, maybe refine it a little but yeah I'll be looking forward to this.

Sweet, played the first rainbow six on XBL from the time it came out until I think Halo three came out. I played no other game but R6V. I didn't like the seconds ones online play as much. The maps weren't that great and I didn't like the way they changed the rank system for armors/weapons. It was too easy to go into terrorist maps alone and unlock guns at low ranks.

The cover system is so [censored] smooth and easy to use. Hope they don't muck it up.

Sweet, I was so hoping for a reboot of the franchise since I loved Vegas 2.

Aye, the mission planning phase was always my favorite part of the game. Setting up go-codes, door breaches, frags. The payoff was the flawless execution of a mission with zero team member/hostage casualties.

I mean, cinematic? Grittier? 3rd person cover system? It's like a laundry list of every boring feature-of-the-month all rolled into a single package.

What would be really awesome is if they combined the tactical elements of the older games with the new combat system.

THat blurb about the plot sounds horrible. But Rainbow six has been dead to me ever since R6: Lockdown, so it just means another game I won't be buying.

I'll just copy/paste my thoughts on the concept video:

Mixed feelings on this. They didn't really do much to show off these tough choices other than the fact that they apparently exist. Hold the detonator, push the guy off the bridge, etc., but they didn't show us how the game would change based on said choices. What we saw in the video was very QTE-esque, and while I'm sure the actual game wouldn't pack them in as densely as this demo, I'm not sure how an entire game of "Press [button] to do [action]" prompts will be, especially if it's stuff like "kiss wife" or "turn on TV".

My biggest problem with player choice in gaming is that it's usually incredibly shallow, to the point where I'd honestly prefer a well-crafted static narrative to one that offers insignificant choices. The video hasn't done much to convince me that Rainbow 6 will be any different, though I look forward to them hopefully proving me wrong.

This looks good, the concept at least, I just wish that was actual gameplay.

Definantly going to buy it if the story is going to end up like that.

What.....they threw the poor guy off the bridge...what...the...[censored].

I don't like this at all. Too futuristic, reminds me of Ghost Recon now.

Urgh.... could they stray away from the original concept even more? Bring back the glorious days of R6: Raven Shield!

I also find it kinda annoying how every game nowadays has to include that Eagle Vision shtick. Do game devs REALLY have that low opinion about us players? :lmao:

Solid series. I hope the PC gets a real version, not just a weak port from the console.

Gameinformer has a huge write-up on the game, I have to say I'm pretty excited for it.

This. It was an incredible tactical game, with a lot of difficulty if you're like me, and are only satisfied when a mission was executed *perfectly*. Another great series ruined by casualization.
