Random CTD's on Medium setting or higher.

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 8:20 am

Bought the game yesterday thinking most bugs would be fixed by now, but little did I know. I've been experiencing awful CTD's every min or two of gameplay. On default, Skyrim enables all settings to high, and the game runs real smooth on that setting, that is, until 2 min of gameplay and then the random CTD hits. Put it on medium settings, same thing. But when I run the game on low settings there seems to be no CTD's so far. What is exactly happening here? I mean, the game runs very good on high settings with no lag, yet it CTD's? I run Crysis, the witcher 2, and SC2 all on high settings with no issues at all. I would appreciate if anyone could help me out with this problem and help me bump up my settings to where they should be.

Card overheating probably, either get MSI Afterburner, EVGA precision or one of the other card overclocking utilities and monitor the temperature of the card. If it looks a little too hot, I prefer not to go over 70, then increase the fan speed manualy using whatever of those previously mentioned programs you have chosen.
Don't think the 260 deos DX11 so you may want to make sure your DX10 is up to date as well, I imagine it is okay if you are using it on those titles you mentioned.

Hey guys, I don't have xfire running and I doubt it's a heating issue only because I run Crysis and the witcher 2 on high settings for 1+ hours with no lag, and the witcher 2 is very demanding on graphics, as well as a 3 on 3 in SC2. :bunny:

If the game is crashing it is stretching some aspect of your hardware could be the CPU, GPU the fact that you have low VRAM, your 32 bit OS or a combination of them. Have you tried to disable the HD texture pack in the data files part of your launcher(both files)?

Hey Thoth, I disabled the texture packs like you said and so far I got 30 min of gameplay on High settings. First time I've gotten this far on High settings. Why is it that the texture pack effected my CTD rate? I play games with much better graphics without CTD.

I suspect the 32 bit OS the texture pack basically is unstable on anything but a 64 bit OS. As long as you leave it off you should be ok.....it basically changed the minimum requirements for the game on release because it is on by default was DLC. Imo it should be off by default. That would be the primary reason I would give however you could be a bit low on VRAM to run the HD pack but I doubt that. Did it crash or did you log out to respond? Well hope its fixed for ya but stop back if not :D
