Random Encounter, lack of.

Post » Mon Jun 27, 2011 1:07 pm

Ever since NV came out, I've felt there was something missing when just exploring the Mojave Wasteland, compared to when I used to explore the Capital one. It's only recenlty dawned on me that NV is missing an ingredient that I loved in Fallout 3 ... namely, random encounters. I think there were over 80 different ones in FO3, each of which could happen at any one of the many random encounter locations. It took me a good 10 playthroughs to experience all of them. I absolutely loved them, thought they spiced up the exploration in exciting ways.

Does anyone know why Obsidian didn't include these?
Did anyone else really enjoy them?
Anyone glad that they're not in NV?

All responses appreciated :fallout:

Yeah, Random Encounters were cool in F3. But really I don't freak about the lack of them in New Vegas.

It is something that I miss from all previous games. Not just that, but more random generic encounters (faction battles, robberies, etc.)
It's still a better game though, IMO.

I enjoyed them in Fallout 1, and would have liked them in New Vegas.

I liked the random encounters and dangers of them in Fallout 2. There's always mods, but the vanilla game is kind of predictable and dry....i..e. there is always a legion patrol here.....i.e. there is always a NCR patrol there.

I liked how in Fallout 3, you could encounter Outcast patrols anywhere and then they tell you "shouldn't you be banging rocks or something." Or see a slaver patrol or see a gang of raiders doing an initiation.

Yeah, I wish Obsidian would patch them in. Mojave is boring after you have completed the game once and know exactly where everything is.

It's been said a billion times before but it is still correct the game feels to static tbh.

I actually never noticed the lack of random encounters in New Vegas, I mean I like random encounters, but its not a deal breaker.

Missing random encounters here too. Been missing them for awhile. Still a great game, but some randomness would have made it even better. Honestly, I'd rather have something like this added to the main game than to get a DLC.

I reallu miss the random encounters too. They make the game exciting. FONV really needs random encounters because it's very boring walking around the Mojave.

I agree. Hope they add random encounters for New Vegas.

They bring the wasteland to life. Totally svcks not having them in.
Nothing cooler than seeing an Enclave vertibird fly over your head and descend right in front of you..
