This is so annoying... much i play and much these killings happen in towns like Whiterun, i have A LOT of NPCs killed now like Belethor, Arcadia, Armen, Heimskr, Alvor and his wife etc... and its getting worse.
Whiterun and rivewood are now like ghost towns with piles of corpes... i'm the only one? Bethesda will fix that with a respawn or less killings or something ?
The developers on Bethseda did obviously not think twice about this matter. It seems you will have to reload a save each time a non-essential NPC dies. I don't have Dawnguard myself, does those random attacks stop once you have finished the questline on Dawnguard side?

I don't know, i have not finished yet Dawnguard's quests.
Even if i reload my save, killings still happens and sometimes before i came... i'm seriously pissed of with that issue...
I don't have VG but i've been informed that with the exception of the first attack, if you stay away from towns until you compete story line (either side) the attack then stop.
or only vist towns durirng the day, less chance of attacking but always save just encase
I lost NPCs in Riften, but that's it... Whiterun I never had any problems (so I went only there). I avoided Riften if possible, after losing the Pawned Prawn guy plus Aerin. Even Mjoll doesn't seem to miss Aerin much, LoL - but I liked the Pawned Prawn guy. Everything is back to normal once the Dawnguard main quest completes... But Belethor and Arcadia?! You're not serious...! That's appalling.

they're meant to stop, but they bug and continue.
I've had people arguing with me saying that their game isn't bugged and that they're meant to continue.
I guess me and the other guys who had it stop are bugged by that logic?
well they couldnt happen before you get there as things dont load until you enter the cell
That's weird because immediatly after my fast travel in Whiterun, i came across some corpses in front of me and a little further, some vampires fighting with guards and some npcs to the market place... Whiterun is so depressing now.

You may have had some lag between your loading screen and the actual game?

I bet your problem has something to do with that glitch where enemies would spawn alongside you when you fast traveled to a location. I remember, once, the game decided to resurrect and spawn Morokei right next to me in Riften...now that was a nightmare. Thankfully, I was able to reload and traveled to Riften without a resurrected Morokei next to me.
I lost no in town NPCs after the first time I lost a bunch of in town NPCs.
Here is how I did it:
1. Never travel to or in a city after dark. 2. Always save before going to a city, just in case I show up after dark. 3. If I want an vampire attack to trigger, then I would wait in an interior cell in the city until 8PM, then wait again until 10PM. This would run the scripts that get all the commuters home. This should clear the way that only Gaurds and other generics are caught up in the battles. Then I would go outside and have the vampire attack trigger. Even then I would have saved before I started waiting, just in case.

But half if not more of my vampire attacks take place in daylight
im on pc so i just do resurrections sometimes i think that TES should be better only for pc, sorry but with everything they could do and with the mods and all that it would be probably maybe a perfect game, although i would like Xbox and PS3 players to play it too

Things can happen, one of the CK tutorials talks about not placing enemies in the first room that you load into since you can be attacked before your interface comes back. Also if things are in a cell like NPC's performing tasks or animations they will be happening within that cell even though your over the otherside, and some cells can be big.

People shouldn't have to jump through hoops to just go turn in quests and do some trading. Vampire attacks in cities was a really bad idea. First off it makes no sense story wise. I'm harkon and I have plan to rule the world but before my plan is in full swing and I have all my ducks in a row. Lets send vampires to attack cities and put them on alert and have a chance to prepare. Oh and with the storm cloak and dragon war going on and cities on lock down , I'm sure the guards are just going to let some glowing eye bat faced vampire and his death hounds go for a stroll through the front gate.

Have you guys tried fast traveling to a nearby location then walking the rest of the way to the town? It seems to work well for me. When ever I walk to towns I never come across NPCs getting slaughtered or vampires waiting to jump me ghetto style. Maybe doing that will at least decrease the amount of attacks.

walked out the blacksmith shop in whiterun and vampires spawned xD
The more time I spend here the more I realize I have alot of vampire issues lol

It really helps if you do the occasional ride around the country roads at night to keep their numbers down. Outside of a couple of towns that I haven't done that with I've actually found vamps lurking with invisibility around the gates. There is a linkage between the number of vamps around the place, and the number of attacks on towns etc.
Random Vampire attacks as they are, are a major pain in the bum. Like a previous poster said, being made to jump through hoops all the time to try and limit all the problems this causes, totally spoils immersion IMO and I have long since un-installed DG for this very reason.
Has anyone looked at the scripts to find out exactly what is going on with them?
I looked at a mod that is specifically designed to stop the attacks and the notes seemed to suggest they appeared in a timed cycle. So an attack would happen after a certain amount of time has passed after the last one and not limited to day or night .I expect there is a lot more to it than that so would be very helpful having all the facts in one place so we could look at them instead of going round and round in circles on this issue.
I once traveled to Markarth and had a literal pack of animals spawn next to me...4 wolves, 3 bears(a mix of cave and normal, and a few bandits). Now everytime I go there in that game another group of enemies will respawn, from trolls to bandits.
But...it didn't happen near a populated area so its basically free loot.

Well fast traveling to locations near the city rather than inside the city won't eradicate the attacks all together, but it will decrease the number of attacks you experience. People see most of their vampire attacks after fast traveling into a city. I know I do anyway.
