Random PC shut down during gameplay

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 10:59 am

Hey guys,

Wonder if anyone can assist.

basically my pc shuts its self off randomly while playing Skyrim. It could be 10 mins into the game or, so far, the longest game time is about 2hours.

I know for sure its not the CPU or GPU temp issues as i have monitors and makes for CPU is 60. I do not overclock anything. Battlefield 3 runs fine for 8 solid hours so this is definately something which must be Skyrim related.

I am at my wits end! any one else solved this or at least let me know I am not alone! I am tempted to ask for my money back!

Any advice would be great!

power supply?

Comparing it to another game is futile...... battlefield is NOT a stress testing benchmark.... skyrim however is....

Yes, your rig shutting itself off is a hardware problem (or virus, in rare cases). If it isn't your PSU then it's likely over-heating so open up your case, clean out any dust and debris and check that your fans are all working properly.

I just had the same issue. Put a tester on my power supply and it was faulty (power supply 2 month old). Replaced today and hope it works. My symptoms wer that after the computer was on for 3-15 minutes (whether I played or not) it would turn off. The after powering on again it stayed on. Got worse over time. So your power supply is most likely faulty.

+1 and +1.

This sounds like a faulty/under performing PSU.

Asus' Game Doctor also can do the same.
