Ranged mounted combat without first person and automatic mou

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 8:36 am

Ranged mounted combat is impossible like this, you can barely aim and the mouse steering makes it even worse.

If they'd give us first person riding and make the mouse steering be turned off (buttons only) when a ranged weapon is equipped, it'd be SO much better.

Yes I have.

bull****, they just announced the update no less than 10-20 minutes ago. there's absolutely no way, in that timeframe, that you somehow managed to download the update and had a chance to test it out extensively before posting on here.

obvious troll is obvious.

And that will help Bethesda improve it how exactly?

If you were vigilant enough, you would have noticed the steam Beta. THe fact is that this is not completely playable yet, so dont just disregard it as trolling if you don't know yourself.

the point is, he hasn't tried it.

they announced the update literally minutes ago. it sounds like he heard about the update, thought "hey what else can I complain about?" and then created a thread claiming he had already tried it out, which logically, is completely impractical.

Don't worry, they'll get enough feedback; they don't need people who have decided that it shouldn't work or that it's useless before even trying it.

once again, bull****. I believe in coincidences but that just sounds like contrived nonsense. he somehow posted a thread post-Bethesda making a thread concerning the update?

and you would have literally had to be checking for new beta updates nonstop to have noticed this, since it requires actually manually going to your Steam settings to enable the beta update.

Dude, I HAVE tried it. I have a super good connection, I download at 7 MB/s. Stop trolling, what a fool would I look if first person was in and mouse steering was turned off? I'm a team leader of a mod team of 30 developers, I have a reputation to consider (both my own and MERP's). I would never take the risk of posting before trying.

I'll prove some more:

When dual wielding, only the right weapon is used. Two handed weapons work but fire slower. You attack left side of the horse with left mouse button, right side of the horse with right button. (edit: actually other way around) Melee attacks are always the same (static), ranged attacks with the bow are dynamic (your character actually moves the bow properly to the sides and up and down where you aim). You can shoot with your bow in a 180 degree angle (which is somewhat unrealistic, but nice).

Surely you jest. The last few updates show Bethesda is more interested in adding features than fixing problems or making improvements to existing features.

You've obviously no idea who Maegfaer is, and believe me, he's not a troll. If he says he's played it, he has.

Okay, try it again and get used to it. If the devs can use it, we can too.

seriously?

did you read his suggestion? he's trying to inquire on the fact that Bethesda has no implementation of first person controls for the horse combat, yet fails to realize that first person combat with horses=/ working system. how awkward would it be to have to manually control your horse while simultaneously drawing a bow to aim at a target?

it sounds more impractical than the current implementation, so I have no idea what you're trying to imply.

It will stay clumsy. I'll try to improve it myself through modding, but it'd be far better if Bethesda changes it.

Have you ever played Mount & Blade? It has perfect controls for mounted combat including horse archery, I'm suggesting two features that make it great in that game and would work perfectly in Skyrim.

TheKing01 and ladyofthemoon, you're making yourselves look bad and you are very off-topic. If you want to discuss whether Maegfaer is trolling or not, do it somewhere else. Or rather not at all, it's embarrassing.

I apologize, but for someone who is suppose to be a "Leader Scripter and Team Leader for MERP" I'm struggling to see how you can't comprehend that Mount & Blade=/Skyrim.

the controls between those two games, as well as the game mechanics dictating both couldn't be more different. so trying to draw a comparison to an entirely different game is like trying to say "WHY SKYRIM DONT HAVE WITCHER 2 COMBAT SYSTEM?" when it was designed with first-person mechanics in mind.

Wish they would have taken a page from Mount and blade warbands mounted combat system that combat system is top notch, Trying to aim a bow with the mouse movement that also moves the horse will make shooting from horseback really hard I can see people spinning in circles trying to get a lock on a creature with a bow.

Oblivion had both first person horse riding and button controls only for steering. It just lacked mounted combat. There is absolutely no reason why first person riding and button controls only for steering wouldn't work in Skyrim.
