Ranged pet AI

Just curious if anyone else has been burdened with unbelievably dumb ranged pets for their mage. I've been using the Storm Atronoch the past couple days and he's been doing everything in his power to NOT help me. I'm not talking about enemies that can control him or that he dies too fast (he usually doesn't die). No, I'm referring to his idiotic attempts to stay at range and then... stand there. Seriously, he runs back a few yards and then does nothing. And if I try to move the enemies into LOS (that he's insistent on losing), he runs even farther away and, yet again, stands there. The Flame Atronoch does the same thing to me.

Anyone else suffer this problem?

If you run into Storm Atronachs in the wild they do the exact same, can make them quite hard to kill for a melee character as you can never quite get to them before they wipe you out. I would imagine that in a dungeon this fighting style would make them behave like you describe.
Maybe better saving them for outdoors action.

Sadly I was referring mostly to my outdoor use of them. lol In dungeons I sneak around a lot and cast from the shadows (not easy most of the time, but it's fun).
