Rangers guild

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 5:50 pm

I play as a Ranger.

I love the bow
I love light armour
I love alchemy
And I love using swords when my covers blown.

With the abundance and diversity of terrains in Skyrim, Rangers have never had it this good. Now all we need is a guild or a meaty quest line.

Some will say: you have the DB or TG, go an do those. But unfortunately its not that black and white. The DB is steeped in ritual and sacrifice and the TG has far too much thievery and crime. Even the most imaginative RP would have trouble with that. I am a solid supporter of Skyrim but if I had one complaint, it would be that queslines force you to make decisions that can break immersion (what you have to do to progress though the companions etc.).

What I want is a rangers guild and I want to see what sort of ideas people have as a starting point.

My inspiration comes from:

The Night's Watch Rangers and Rangers of Ithilien

I'd really like this. I agree that archers are the most underrepresented archetype. I guess there's always the Companions for them, though.

Gutslit is a ranger/sorta thief(this who, find a way to say he isn't thief because he claims he isn't one anymore is going to end up being a running gag, I think.) who uses bows even in close quarters. He is somehow not married to his sixy Ebony bow despite having used it more than he's been flirting with Aela.

Now that I'm done giving character stories, time to be relevant! More guilds of a less conventional variety would be nice in general. We got the fighter guild, assassin guild, thief guild, mage guild, buggy bard college that currently serves no purpose outside of looting their place and enjoying having some flute forever in your inventory. I think we might have the drunk people guild, but that might only be a lie Maiq told me while he was drunk.

Moar guilds! At least let us join the old people faction to troll the oldies.

yep, i agree with this so much. there should be quests for hunting rare animals, notes will be giving to you consisting of clues and information found about these rare animals i.e. time of day, hints of the location and how difficult they would be to take down.

thats the hunting side of it, but i still completely agree that there should be a rangers guild! it would be awesome!

not only should there be hunting quests linked in, but others should be involved "can't think of any more ranger related quests"

I would make a joke about helping someone spread a religion, but the Ultima series is dead now...

Sniping vampires. There's a ranger quest.

I agree more guilds. In oblivion there was a mod that added a archaeology guild with a great questline. I assume (and hope) eventually some will be released for skyrim :D

Regarding ranger stuff, quite a few mods out there that are ranger/ hunter based. Only helps if you have a pc though :P

Im glad to see there is support for this. I know rangers are a popular archetype.

I agree there should be some hunting, but more as a radiant ongoing quest. I would really like to see a Rangers guild charged with the defence of something. Ideas people?

I imagine it would be difficult to implement, but it would be great it there was some kind of tracking mechanic in the game which allowed you to track animals for hunting and track enemies. For example, if you discovered traders, travellers, farmers etc. had been attacked by the Falmer, you could track them back to a cave or Dwemer ruin. That would add a little bit of RP to being a ranger, and would tie in with the Rangers of the North, and to a lesser extent the Rangers of Ithilien.

The radiant quests for a ranger guild could involve patrolling certain areas of the map, keeping bandits, trolls etc at bay, and the main quests could involve massive journeys like those undertaken by Aragorn in the years before Frodo leaves the Shire. You could also defend areas against small-scale attacks with other rangers in the guild.

They probably didn't add the rangers guild in because they had already covered the three bases: Stealth (TG), Combat (Companions), and Magic (Mage College).

If they did have a ranges guild I'm completely up for it. And with the addition of dragonbone weapons and the crossbows from Dawngaurd they have every opportunity to create the new guild.

(lol the couriers guild imagine that questline).

I think it's about time that we had new guilds, we have had the same guilds since oblivion. Although i guess the Dawnguard and vampires are sort of new guilds now that i think about it...

Rather than making more guilds with almost no story to them, I'd rather they put more work into the existing guilds. If we could have both, I'd be all for it. However, I don't want even more guilds lacking of any real story.

Umm, most of quests in game are doable by ranger, so why don't you guys just organize your own ranger guild? I don't need a guild to play as a team of Khajiit.

The rangers guild house should be an inn or tavern like the Bannered Mare. A place where you can sell your animal skins, and alchemy ingredients; pick up quests and swap stories over an ale. :foodndrink:

The Drunken Huntsman! Not only is it an inn, it's a hunting store as well. :foodndrink:

You are so right, OP. There needs to be a "good" guild for the ranger types where you don't have to be a seedy ,borderline evil character to play it. This IS a great game for rangers, but i don't think Theives Guild or DB are suitable.
