My Rant about Skyrim: Non-Killable NPCs

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:54 am

By biggest problem with Skyrim is that you can't kill anyone you want.

Didn't the Todd guy say that you get to play your character how ever you want?

Well I chose to play mine as a evil thunder archmage.

I wander Skyrim and kill anything that moves.

What I find Mega-Super-Duper annoying is that I can't kill anyone I want.

There are way too many non-killable npcs.

 :nope: :unsure2: :brokencomputer: I mean, 90% of Riften are all non-killable. :banghead: :swear:  :wallbash:

^ Ridiculous dood

Why didn't they let Skyrim be like Fallout-New vegas and let you kill anyone you want?

If I chose to kill someone then let the quest that the npc is involved in fail. <--------------------------------

My Solution: Release a new patch

- Allow all npcs to be killable ONLY by the player.

- By killing an npc involved in a quest, you fail the quest.

By the way, I don't wanna hear about using console commands.

I'm playing on the PS3...

I used to use console commands like you, then my computer randomly decided to give me incredibly weird keyboard lag.

There are people who would ruin their game and saves so the games are made now for people like that so they cant hurt there game, my guess.

Older tes games you could kill any one, oh well everything changes for better or worse..

You can disable them in the .ini file.

Would you like it if a dragon spawned an killed off half of an entire town and ruined half of your important quests since the game doesn't tell you you failed a quest if you haven't received it yet and your only saves are during the attack?

Wow, well the title said rant so ill say no more about your post lol.
Personaly im with you on the invinsible npc, they arnt even uncommon and they even appear in quests that have violence as an option(gamebreak). The game even instructs you, to fail, at killing off certain enemys because they are pointlessly essentail. Please dont do this. id rather they 'get healed' later if you really need them to be alive or just dont keep fighting back and yeild when you put them down for like the 13th bloody time lol. It not like they dont already have the power tomake them only killable by the player, or respawn or yeild or do alot of stuff that doesnt involve game break. Its not like i even go on 'killing sprees' i almost always make good guy characters or at least good at heart.

Somehow I think this is their work around for the game's inability to replace all of them with a new NPC.

Why did they go and have to do that for all the noobs?

The noobs ruin the game for everyone else.

They should at least make so you get to chose to activate npc invulnerability during the game from the start menu or something.

The few really important people should just stay inside, dragon attack problem solved.

Yup. Let's do that. If Esbern steps in your way when in combat, svcks to be you. Let Jack who doesn't have a clue about the game kill everyone for fun and then wonder why he can't find who he needs for his next quests.

Why? Because he chooses to play the game differently than you?

non guards/warrior npc should flee dragons period, stay in side, if they did this behavour they could just be immune to dragons so if they dont get in side wouldnt die in the time they take running there, my immursion will servive if there hp doesnt drop alittle as they flee the dragon. Thats was what i was exspecting when it was in dev.
When the pc is doing the killing its a different matter tho.
Problem solved is to have them go to one knee and yeild(auto save) then you can kill them for good if you like, then they could even put in the mw pop up for quest giver killed, you could load it up if you didnt like it.

A simple solution would be to do exactly what Morrowind did. If you killed an essential NPC a notebox would pop up and tell you so. You then had the choice to either reload a save before you killed him, or just continue on.

I think once when I was in winterhold one of the drunks was laying dead in a bush. The gaurds walked up to his corpse and a dragon roared, then they hearded everyone into the inn while me and them fought off the dragon.

I thought it was amazing, but why doesn't that happen normaly? :nope:

Well, if you're on PC, you can spend some time rendering NPCs as non-essentials via the console. Then do what you will per your heart's content. Or if you beat them and they drop to one knee, being incapacitated, you can disable them via the console too, which is what I do when I invade an imperial camp. The general at each camp is essential, so I beat him and then disable his model so I can feel that the camp is cleared completely.

Yeah Op I agree. I went on a killing rampage in white run and ended up with over a half dozen invincible npcs chasing me forever, until I gave up and reloaded. It just svcks! They need to seriously reduce the amount of essential npcs, make quest relevant npcs only kill able by the player and the truly essential (e.g. Ulfric) have a knock out mechanic where defeating them puts them down for like 5 or 10 minutes.
