Really? Pyschic guards still exist?

For folks that don't want to read the mini spoilers, here's a summary: : Damn guards are still pyschic. Really Bethesda?

Spoiler

It's something I probably noticed before, but it reared it's HUGE ugly head during the "Bound until death" quest. I'm sitting on a ledge where there's no Line of Sight with anyone BUT my target. I shoot the bride once, killing her instantly. I'm hidden the entire time. When she's shot, the sneak eye opens just a tiny bit. I walk backwards behind a wall since all hell broke loose. The eye never opens more, but only closes and I never get the sneak message "discovered." I get the "Hidden" message again stating I'm completely safe. I'm thinking ok that wasn't perfect, but at least I wasn't truly caught. Up comes this guard just out for a jaunt. Walks straight to me (I'm still completely hidden).

"I'm here to arrest you. You better come quietly or pay the fine."

So let's list the WTF's:
#1 No one EVER discovered me. Why did I get a 1000 gold bounty?
#2 How the hell does a guard find me while I'm completely hidden?
#3 I just killed the cousin of the EMPEROR! Why, if they're going to punish me, was it only a 1000 gold bounty? It should have been the chopping block in my opinion. I just RUINED a possible reconciliation of the Stormcloaks and the Empire and killed a DIRECT relative of the EMPEROR! (My odd complaint, more pertenent to the quest than anything)

I can understand it could be a problem on the alpha build because it was built on the same engine as Oblivion, but it was one of the first things the modding community FIXED in Oblivion. Why the hell does it still exist in SKYRIM?

I have done plenty of tests involving the guards and have found only one instance of the psychic guards. However, having not done that quest, it could be related to the quest area or the specific NPCs they use for it.

I've done a few other quests and/or kills with no witnesses and even though I won't necessarily get a 1000 gold bounty, I'll still get a 50 gold bounty for assault. I'm not sure what this is all about.

I do agree with you, for the most part, the system seems better, but it just isn't quite perfect yet. It just amazes me that something that the modding community fixed with a single mod in Oblivion is still a problem in Skyrim. I was completely flabbergasted that I got caught by a pyschic guard in this game; I thought that problem would have been removed already.

Think about it from a realistic perspective.

The Emperor's cousin is killed.

The Emperor's cousin has an arrow sticking out of her bosom.

Guards are on the lookout for a shooter.

They come across a mysterious person with a bow and a quiver of arrows kicking it in the shadows on a vantage point over looking the ceremony. The only real crime is that they didn't cut off your head, you murderous bastard.

The guards aren't psychic, bro.

My Dunmer Assassin murders town guardsmen whenever I get the notion to, and I never get caught or even have a bounty from it (and I play exclusively on a 360, so don't try the "well you must be modding" excuse. ;)).

It is that particular quest. It's the way it is written. You are supposed to get seen, and you have to make a break for it. Hence why the lizard has to run distraction for you.

I've made a separate save, and killed the bride in every conceivable way, all from safe concealment. You still always get seen, and I even had magical help in the form of the Ancient Shrouded Armor and a bunch of sneaky-boost jewelry.

It isn't anything you are doing, or that the guards are psychic, the simple truth is that the quest is written that way. Besides, it is the Emperor's cousin, they couldn't let you get away without breaking a sweat, right? lol

This. This point is also justified by the fact that the loading screen information when you enter Solitude during the wedding says, "Assassins of the Dark Brotherhood must be ready to pay for their murders in either money, jailtime... Or more blood."

I did it without getting seen. I followed the bride onto the balcony and while she was making her speech i plunged my dagger through her from behind. Then I activated my shadow stone power (invisibility) and jumped off the balcony. While the argonian assassin (forgot his name) was running interference I got out of town quickly without being spotted once. No bounty. \o/

Wild. Good for you mate.

I'll bite on Uriel Nocturne's concept that it's coded in. Unless of course if it happens somewhere else, but I have killed a great many npc's and nothing like this has happened.

I managed to complete that quest with only a 40 or 60 gold bounty after delivering a one-shot sneak arrow attack on the bride. I wasn't spotted and the Argonian didn't rat me out either (he did that the first time). I even backed away from the balcony edge as soon as my arrow fired, guards still knew it was me.

That's scripted. The guards attack no matter what. You can get away without a bounty though if you're not actually "seen" in the normal sense of the word.

I haven't run into any psychic guards and I play a psychotic murderer who farms guards to keep my enchanted daggers full of soul juice. I've killed dozens without ever getting seen.

if you can get far enough away from your initial location before they find you they don't get wise.

I pushed the statue off the balcony, and walked around the corner, then jumped off the ledge (all while sneaking), then walked right past 3 guards on my way out of the city, then proceeded to fast travel back to the sanctuary.

The Argonian who was sent to be a distraction ran up to me, and looked very confused as to why nobody was chasing me, then wandered off.

Lol. You guyz realize you can kill her with no bounty and not being discovered right?

Push the freaking statue on her head and stop firing arrows in to a crowd of nobles. The guards aren't psychic they are following the path of the arrow back to its source.

Plus the game wants you to do this a certain way, hence the bounty if you dont.

If that upsets you just wait til a couple missions later and you have to kill the emperor. Guaranteed bounty.
