Red Dead Redemption #13

So I've been playing this game for the last few days. All I can say is WOW. It has the most amazing landscapes I've ever seen in a game, brilliant voice acting, it's just perfection all round. I may even consider getting XBL Gold just to play with you guys. So...yeah.

The pant covers are called Chaps. :)

Yes they are, I'm just an idiot who's too tired to remember that or look it up on wikipedia :P

Multiplayer is pretty dissapointing, towns are underpopulated, miigames are removed and its just people shooting eachother and spawnkilling.

At the moment I'm on my second mission in Mexico - I'm guessing I go to that area in the north east near the end? I want to hunt me some bears.

Damn bears, i was out hunting trying to earn $10,000 when four bears chased, there were four of them at once. They killed my two best horses and then me after i tried to kill them wiht fire bottles and dynamite. They are a silent kiler, worse than any cougar.

Yeah thats why i said is as good as GTA, not better. I wish it had a cops and robbers game mode, and the minigames would have been fun for posse members to play. Maybe in an update or DLC hey.

Beleive me when you find their spawn run out of ammo and have three bears chase you on foot after your horse was killed, you wont want to hunt them ever again.

I've lost 2 horses to cougars. When you get a new one, it's obviously a different model, but does it keep the built up stamina and stuff? I can't really tell yet. I think I actually prefer RDR to GTA IV, it's just so beautiful, and the world feels so believable.

I like the Bolt-action Rifle the most thus far, though I've yet to come across the Buffalo Rifle, Henry Repeater or the Evans Repeater.

So I'm still in Mexico. While the place is great, I really don't like the landscape of Mexico that much. Not because it's not nice, or that it doesn't look exactly like the Southwest/Mexico, but because of all the cliffs and winding roads. If you go off the roads to get somewhere faster you'll probably just end up running into the edge of a cliff, and so you basically have to stay on these long out-of-the-way roads to get anywhere. The only two real towns being on one side of the map also make the rest of the place feel like a big expanse of nothing, with the occasional run-down slum looking place to break it up.

Still having a good time with the game though. Just can't wait to get back to the U.S. and West Elizabeth.

.... So you haven't really visited Mexico before have you?

On another note, I think some of the stuff said when you're loading a Bounty onto your horse is funny. Like last night, I was putting a bounty on the back of my horse, and the line was "Idiot, meet horse. Horse, meet idiot."

I love it every time I hear a wilhelm scream in the game. Also, I do find Mexico's landscape a little tedious, and why are there certain bits that are really white on the ground? Is it just really light sand?

Is this in response to my saying that RDR's Mexico looks like the real Mexico? In any case, no I haven't been. I've only seen pictures, but a lot of them I've seen do look an awful lot like the game.

You'd love my ringtone then haha.

Mexico wasn't bad. If your horse is fast, you don't even notice the distance. Also, horse pills seem kind of pointless, if you follow roads you get unlimited stamina by just tapping A every second or so.

I spent ages tapping the gallop button really rapidly, until I worked out you could tap it really pretty slowly and travel at the same speed for longer.

Yes, yes it was. :)

And it was a little bit of a jab at the following line in your post: "The only two real towns being on one side of the map also make the rest of the place feel like a big expanse of nothing, with the occasional run-down slum looking place to break it up."

Just made me laugh because that's basically what Mexico is. Two major towns, and vast expanse of nothingness and some slum towns.

Not sure if anyone noticed this (with my luck it's probably well known and I'll look like a noob) but when you walk by a stagecoach, sometimes the driver will say "why walk when you can ride?", which as you probably know is a Morrowind reference. Just thought it was neat.

On another note, my favourite rifle is the Buffalo Rifle, I just can't resist all that power it has.

I certainly hope that whatever DLC is released includes some sort of barbershop, and also driving a car would be slick.

I never said that wasn't what Mexico looked like. I even said it is what it looked like. I simply meant that it doesn't help the place in terms of the gameplay, because everything is basically on one side of the map, with next to nothing on the other. It makes it feel unbalanced.

Oh yeah, I have to find an mp3 or something of that scream so I can make it the message sound on my phone :P

I don't think you're right on that. That's been said more than just in Morrowind, and before Morrowind was even an idea. I think it's just a common phrase that's used.

I rather like having a accurate portrayal of Mexico, even if it is just two major towns, with a vast expanse of nothingness and slums in the middle.

Yeah, it's like "why stand when you can sit". It's a common expression, and it's been around for a lot longer than Morrowind.

So, after reading in one of the newspapers that the Tumbleweed mansion is haunted, I decided to do some investigations, and there is a lot of creepy stuff that happens there at night. Stuff like lights flickering on and off, and a couple of things moving. I also heard a loud hissing noise coming from the upstairs, but that could have been a snake. Apparently the piano also plays itself sometimes, among other things.

Oh, yes, I agree. I love the more accurate portrayal of the place, too. I only wished that the two major towns would have been farther apart, not bunched over to one side.
