Religion in RAGE

Let me start by saying that I have not played all the previous id Software games, so if this has mostly been covered before, I apologize, and would greatly appreciate some info on the matter if you could shed any. I am extremely excited about this game and things like this just make me even more excited about it. It's something to think about at least. I am not a very religious person, at least any more (raised by family at young age to attend church, but have grown out of it), but the idea of Rage and previous games all tying together into one huge story, gives me chills thinking of how epic it would all be.

After reading the 3 comics and starting on the book today, I can't help but notice how many religious terms are used in the story line. For instance, you have the Ark pods which are part of the Eden Project (Garden of Eden) which were protecting people from the destruction of the earth so that they may flourish once the chaos has settled.

Then we have the actual name of the asteroid that collided with Earth. Apophis is the Greek name of the Ancient Egyptian enemy of Ra: Apep, the Uncreator, an evil serpent that dwells in the eternal darkness of the Duat (earth's middle) and tries to swallow Ra during His nightly passage. Apep is held at bay by Set, the Ancient Egyptian god of storms and the desert. Tholen and Tucker — two of the co-discoverers of the asteroid — are reportedly fans of the TV series Stargate SG-1. One of the show's persistent villains is an alien named Apophis who, on the show, gave rise to the myth of the Egyptian god.

The Eden Project was overtaken by 12 Visionaries (The 12 Apostles of Jesus). Take a look at the names of Jesus' 12 Apostles:

Simon Peter (Renamed by Jesus to Peter (meaning rock), his original name was Simon bar Jonah;[Mk 3:16] was a fisherman from the Bethsaida [looks like Bethesda doesn't it?] "of Galilee"
Andrew (The brother of Simon/Peter, a Bethsaida fisherman, and a former disciple of John the Baptist)
James, son of Zebedee (The brother of John.)
John (The brother of James. Jesus named both of them Bo-aner'ges, which means "sons of thunder'.'")
Philip (From the Bethsaida of Galilee)
Bartholomew (usually identified with Nathanael)
Matthew (The tax collector. The similarity between Mt 9:9-10, Mk 2:14-15 and Lu 5:27-29 may indicate that Matthew was also known as Levi.)
Thomas (Judas Thomas Didymus - Aramaic T'oma' = twin, and Greek Didymos = twin. Doubting Thomas.)
James, son of Alphaeus
Thaddeus
Simon
Judas Iscariot

Most of these names have been used somehow in the story of RAGE that I have read so far. For example, in the first comic when the woman (Elizabeth) emerges from her Ark pod, she immediately looks for her husband and son, named: David and Andrew. Later you learn that one of the people working for the Authority and tries to corrupt Elizabeth, is James Casey. The person leading the Visionaries is named NOAH CROSS.

In the comic, Elizabeth and her friend Dr. Antonin Kvasir both worked at the UAC which is in the game Doom 3, which was based on Hell on Mars, basically. Also if you noticed, the letter A in the RAGE title, looks like the symbol for the AntiChrist. How does this all tie together? Am I missing key parts of the story of previous games? I never actually played through Doom or Wolfenstein, I just played a few levels and then quit. I did however get really far in Doom 3, but that has been a few years, so I don't remember much of the story. Anyone care to or make sense of all this?
