[WIPz] Remote Control Companions for FNV

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:29 am

Beta is up for download at FNV Nexus - see download link at the end of the page.

Started work on Remote Control Companions for New Vegas. For those that never used it in FO3 it adds a headset item to the inventory that when activated lets you issue commands to up to 8 companions. Setting the headset to a hotkey allows instant access to your companions. Any actor that is set as player teammate can be added to one of the numbered slots and given orders using that slot number. Most menus also have the option to select all for group commands where applicable. Things the mod does are listed below...

- Issue follow and wait orders to one or all of your nearby companions.

- Followers with cigarette items in their inventory will smoke while executing most packages

- Warp companions to your location instantly

- Edit your companions SPECIAL and skill points to your liking

- Use stimpaks to heal your companions, target health or crippled body parts. Healing is based on the players medicine skill

- Use antivenom to cure poison infecting your companions. Posion will appear in the Edit Stats/Heal Companion menu if companion is infected

- Enable health warnings that allow you to heal companions who are below 25% health and administer antivenom

- Turn Essential status off and on for your companions

- Resurrect dead followers with a Stimpak, Buffout, Med-x and Jet

- Order your companion to fire their weapon at any other actor

- Order your companions to move to a specific location

- Set up dynamic patrol points and have your companions use them

- Order your companions to draw/holster their weapons

- Order companions to use Stealthboy, then you can sneak up on enemies without your companions attacking as long as you stay undetected

- Order companions to use chems like Buffout, Doctors Bag, Med-x, and Psycho

- Companions using chems have a chance of becoming addicted.

- Companion addiction can be viewed in the Edit Stats/Heal Companion menu

- Companion addiction can be cured at the New Vegas Medical Center, of the Followers of the Apocalypse camp in Freeside

- Companions can execute sleep, eat, drink, and sandbox packages on command

- Order your companions to go to 1 of 8 home locations that you can set up

Also planning to add the lock/unlock companion gear option when NVSE adds inventory functions. It allows you to select specific armor and weapons to force equip on your companions. Forcing them makes sure that your companion uses only items you specify regardless of what is added to their inventory.

The health warning tells you when a companion has only 25% health left, and gives you the option to apply stims. Stims can be targeted to health, or body parts just like with the player, and the players medicine skill determines the level of healing.

More to come as I add more functions, this is what I have so far.

Great!
Looking forward to this one even though it reads a little different to the FO3 one.

Beta is at nexus now. It's pretty much the same as the FO3 version so it should feel familiar. I didn't add the move to stuff, or patrol options because I never really used them much. The mark and recall stuff is different too. I decided is was better to make two separate command for it, one to warp companions to the player, and another to set home locations and let companions travel there on foot.

Some other slight differences too like the way the menus function. You can move forward or back giving multiple commands, and the menus stay up until you hit exit on a main menu.

If anyone has problems or has an option they can't live without let me know and I'll try to add/fix them.

So I can remotely call up a companion's wheel? And is there a dummy wheel to issue the order to all hired followers? :D

But I did

I often used Attack Target, Travel to a location alone/with companions, Patrol, Move companion to location (although that didn't really work for me - he'd zone with me when I loaded into another cell), and the options in the second menu such as Sit (*favourite), Sleep and all those sandbox-type commands.

Anyway, I'll have a play with this one and see if there's anything I must have ;)

You can bring up the companion wheel yes, but orders from this mod are handled through a message box system, not a dummy companion wheel. There are way too many options to work with the companion wheel. Some of the companion wheel commands only work on vanilla followers so you are better off just using my commands. I only added the wheel option because things like back up work with any companion.

Adding the missing stuff is not a problem so I'll get it in there. Already had a request for the stats editing, which I was sure no one used lol. The sit/sandbox stuff is all there :) For the location options I kind of thought allowing the player to mark and recall on him/herself was a little out of context for the mod. That's why I changed the way it works here. The basic function is still there just doesn't allow the player to warp to places.

Try it out and see if it grows on you :P Once the NVSE guys get the inventory walking stuff added I can just port the FO3 version over completely intact if anyone wants that instead.

Updated on the nexus at the link above. Added in most of the stuff from the FO3 version like, Attack Target, Move to Target, Patrol Points, and the full stats editing menu. I also fixed a bug with the relax command where I had editor location instead of current location ;P

Oh and I included the texture for the icon this time :brokencomputer:

Still working on this mod here and there. Recently added an option to use antivenom on poisoned companions, and tidied up a few bugs. See the file description on NEXUS for all the changes.

This looks pretty cool. Going to have to find some Cazadores and test this antivenom thing out. So tired of my companions dieing from their poison. :banghead:

Ah, so this is your mod huh? Awesomely awesome mod! I've been using it for almost a month now in conjuncture with the cortex scrambler and love it! I have several YouTubes I've made showcasing your mod also, I've linked back to you at nexus as well.

I have this one, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHbVUfPj_WE and this one, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7C5eQ8CKGLM Some of the others I can't link back here because of the other mods used in the movies. Feel free to use those movies at nexus if you would like, I really love your mod. I hope I've sent you more people through YouTube! I just had a guy tonight ask me about it and I linked you up, so keep up the great work! :tops:

Loading this mod up right now.

A few commands that would be nice to see would be All Wait, All Follow, (for those companions currently following you). Also a Take All would be nice to clear out their inventory.

I believe the 'all' option is after you select an action. For example, if you want all of your companions to follow you, you should be able to click "Follow", then an "All" option should appear at the bottom. Remember that this is only in effect if you have more than one companion connected to RCC.
