It weighs nothing and it's kept in your inventory because they're possibly the most important single items in the game at this point, and losing it would really svck. So you're forced to keep it so you can't mess up and lose it. If they let players move it, you'd see a forum full of people raging that they lost it and now they can't use it.

They weigh 1 each for me, I know its not much and is only seven but when I have to start dropping stuff to sell because I dont have that spare seven weight its just really annoying : / I know it would be a pain if people lost them but they could just implement a feature where if dropped and isnt picked up in three days (unless placed in a safe container or bookshelf) they then respawn back at the initial place you pick them up from. just and idea

Maybe they should implement a feature where you can only put them in the safe in the house in Raven Rock or keep them in your inventory. That way you can't possibly lose them and you can still keep them too (since 7 isn't that bad in retrospect).

I try to shed some optimism on that fact that I'll have something to read aside from Gallus' encoded journal.

Innocent people: "But... Bethesda, they still have this book sitting in their inventory for no reason!"

Wait, we can't remove them?
and here I wanted to scatter them across Skyrim: Solitude, Winterhold, Whiterun, somewhere in the water like jumanji, the orphanage in Riften.

I know it seems a bit petty but does having stuff like that you can't drop not annoy anyone else?

It is irritating, shame you cant put them in a chest in your home as that's not really getting rid of them is it.

I believe the reason you cannot remove the black books is because you can use them over, and over, and over, and over. :D

Regardless of whether they actually weigh anything or not, they still sit in your inventory. So you have to scroll past them any time you go into that part of your inventory. If it's Bethesda's intention on making us keep stuff in our inventory, then those items should have their own spot in the inventory rather than in with the common rabble.

again.. this is just a personal opinion when it comes down to it. I for one don't care and don't mind it being there.. it doesn't bother me idk know why it would anyway, whats the hurry about going through your book inventory? Though why would Bethesda put a price on these books? hmm ..but having said that they did intend for them to stay in you're inventory.

Well, we're specifically talking about the Black Books here, but think of all of the quest items you pick up throughout a play-through. Not to mention the still unfixed picking up items before you get the quest, making them permanent items in your inventory (console players).

I certainly agree with all the points you have made and find it irritating that the black books cannot be removed from the inventory. Not sure why it's not possible to put them in a chest or preferably a display cabinet in a house owned by a character. After all, this would not be getting rid of them and it would be nice to see them on display I think.
I'm on my 2nd playthrough of DB at the moment with a new character and was wondering how many black books there actually are, I managed to find 6 on my 1st playthrough but am wondering if there are more to find. Does anybody know the exact amount available?

You can only sell them if you sided with the Dawnguard. He is glitched for VL playthroughs and never offers to purchase them.

Sell them to the orc librarian at Winterhold mage college.
