[REQ] Remove Compass Markers

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 11:25 am

I know it's a bit early to be requesting mods, but there is one tiny thing about the game that's bothering me.

One of my favorite FO3 mods was one that removed the NPC, enemy and location markers from the compass. Now that they're back in NV, it bugs me a little bit. I had heard that the FO3 version of this mod was a fairly easy thing to make, so if anyone is willing to create one for NV, or possibly convert the one from FO3 to work with NV, that would be great. :)

Also, I should mention that I'm not opposed to making or converting this mod myself if no one is willing to. I would just need someone to get me started in the right direction. So if anyone is willing to do that instead, that would be great too. :D

It is a simple mod. Gotta find the graphic for the marker(s) and replace the image file with one 100% alpha.

... can't wait to get home from work!!!!

No need for a mod. Just go into the New Vegas ini and look for:

bShowQuestMarkers=1

change that to 0 and you're done

AFAIK that also removes the marker you can set yourself. Doing it the hard way lets you choose which marker (including undiscovered or discovered location markers) to hide.

The other easier alternative would be to simply create a quest that can't be completed. As long as you have that as active quest you'll have no quest marker.

Cool, I'll try that out.

Are there any settings in the ini to remove the markers that show when locations and NPCs are near as well?

Could make an XML tweak to the HUD as well.

No it doesn't. Well, assuming it's the same setup as in FO3 (Kai would know for sure :) ), but changing that line in the .ini shouldn't remove your own marker. It didn't in FO3.
First chance I get I always remove hand-holding quest markers :)

This value no longer exists in the INI file. I'll have to find where it used to appear in the Fallout INI and see if adding it to that section still takes effect.
