Render window crashes after 10 minutes of use.

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 1:14 pm

The creation kit has frozen up on me a total of five times. Every time I try to edit anything in the render window, it crashes after 10 minutes or so of alterations. I have to shut it down via the task manager. Even when I close the program manually, it stalls out and I have to shut it down via task manager.

I run windows 7 64 bit. My rig is above skyrim's min reqs. I've waited three months to build a proper house in Riverwood. Sadly, that isn't going to happen. Any suggestions?

Also, the top of the render window says M# 216.39% 296.45 MB / 137 MB.
What could that be referring to?

Now I know why they didn't release on a Friday.

Yeah, I was afraid of this. I'm used to these things being buggy, but it's reeeally hard to get anything done in 7 to 10 minutes. We may or may not get a patch for this, I'm afraid ....

Any suggestions from the masses would be so welcome.

Thanks!

Looks like they haven't fixed the old crashing issues from the old kits......save often......the stuff at the top of the window is the amount of stuff in the cell you are in.

It looks like it's loading high res textures. Maybe if I remove them temporarily it'll help.

You had a crash issue when running the editor and skyrim at the same time, right? What is your system and video ram?
AFAIK the status in the render window refers to texture/memory use. I believe the idea is to keep a scene within a certain limit to avoid problems with the various consoles and pc configurations.

No no, that's a separate issue. (I think, but they might be related.) I got a BSOD when trying to run both at the same time. The five crashes I refer to in this post were running just the CK. My video card is a Radeon HD 6670 1 GB. (Post 1.4 I get a nice 50-60 FPS on the steps in Whiterun with everything but shadows and item fade maxed.) I have 6 gigs system RAM. .... Honestly, I don't see why I should be having an issue.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Are you using ENB or something similar? I just spotted http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/555128-findings-for-my-ck-crash/ on the nexus, moving d3d9.dll from the skyrim folder solved their crash issue. Could affect performance as well.

I'm not using ENB. Thanks for the info. I do use ScriptDragon and SKSE, I wonder i they could be the issue.
