Request/suggestion to forum moderators

Post » Wed Oct 19, 2011 1:26 pm

Hi mods. This is a great forum with great and intelligent members. But I think it would be nice if you add a new section. Right now political discussion is against forum rules (not sure why but whatever) and even quoting a politican in a post seems to be cause for thread lockage. I would like very much if you add a politics section for members to discuss politics and upcoming elections and such, of course this would be kept strictly in that section and nowhere else so it would no effect any game forums.
Also, it would be nice to have more section under the general forum, like a games section, movie section, sports, etc... that way one forums does not get cluttered with tons of posts.
Thanks for your consideration.

You could PM a moderator instead of making a new thread :)

Political discussions always end up getting out of hand. Moving them to a different section won't change that.

And CD is quiet enough as it is at the moment - further splitting it up wouldn't be a good idea; you'd just have loads of extremely quiet forums rather than one somewhat quiet one. Also too much faffing about moving between more forums to post.

Politics was allowed here until the 2004 election, then it got ugly. I don't think I'd like to see what the politics section would look like.

Especially now of days. It'd be like the forum equivalent of nuclear war.

It's been tried before. The internet seems to be incapable of polite debate when it comes to politics.

Yes it will. It's happened before and would continue if politics was allowed here.

I would actually like this. This is a forum of advlts and we should be able to discuss such things as politics. I understand that it may get out of hand or a bit heated but that's what happens in politics.

I don't ever expect this to happen

All I'd like to see is indirect references to politics being allowed. I mean, in every good argument, heck sometimes even in video games, politics need to be referenced. Without that, we get mostly lousy threads.

Although that feminine thread is entertaining. We need more like it!

You guys know that the moderators are volunteers, right? If discussion of political themes was allowed there would need to be several full-time moderators to keep the peace.

that is not a bad thing. requiring more work should not be a reason to not do something. especially because they are volunteers so it would not cost BGS money to appoint more for political debates.

There are other forums you can go to, if you really want to debate politics.

Good luck with that. Politics is like religion, you can't have a polite discussion with it. People have very strong opinions on both matters, best to leave it alone.

You forget that this is primarily a gaming forum, and the admins don't think the CD section is vital. So they aren't going to expand it and leave the important sections unmoderated while mods babysit political arguments.

Why on earth would VOLUNTEERS want to do MORE WORK cleaning messes during their FREE TIME?

Sig'd
Also, I love the 'no politics/religion' rule. I think a 'politics' subsection, and especially a 'religion' subsection would go extremely crazy. Ever seen Yahoo! Answers political and religious sections? I know they have a less mature community, but it would still go crazy really quick. Also, beth has been generous to let us have AND keep CD. There have been times where they were on the brink of closing it due to spam and trolling. Remember that this is just general, non-religious/political discussion, and this would be amplified if this was allowed.

The CD is a privilege to us and not necessary to the the company at ALL. they have already explained that several times, and even closed a similar section as this one for quite awhile, as I understand it. Next time it will be for good. There will never be political and religious discussion allowed, and that's just fine. Even grown people can act like morons when their beliefs are frowned on or challenged.

There are no plans to add more off topic forums here, nor to allow political and/or religious discussions. These are gaming forums, if you want to discuss subjects that are restricted here then there are a myriad of other forums on the internet you can go to.

We do allow the occasional religious or political reference and certainly do not close a thread because of them, but it depends how they are received in the thread. Mostly they are ignored as members know not to get involved, but if they start to derail a topic then yes it could result in a topic close.
