I find Restart-itis is not usually a good sign, with regards to a game.

Psh, I have four characters! I still play two! (levels 56, 58, 44, 40) Everyone has a different personality. My last one just started the main quest at level 40! I enjoy starting out/over! :D

You've lost everything and just tried to find your way back to your homeland to start over. Then, you are snatched up by an Imperial patrol and they take even your little Knack Sack from you. Now you are clad in rags and about to loose your head. However, fate intervenes and you are given a second chance. What do you do with it? Where will you go? How will you leave your mark on the world, if that is your goal? Will you go for riches or fame or honor or will you follow a darker path?

Those are questions all my characters will have to ponder, my friend. :)

With so many options, I find myself never satisfied with what I choose. I see a new build here on the forums, or a video on YouTube, and it makes me think "my main can't do that, and it looks awesome!"

Same here. So far I've gone Cleric (sword 'n board with restoration and alteration), Stealth Archer (self explanatory, but totally banned from any magic), and now I'm playing a "Combat Conjurer" (2-handed, Heavy Armor, Conjuration and Restoration). I haven't finished the main story on any of them yet lol.

I don't see restarting with a new character at level 30 as a problem. By that level you can easily have finished the main quest and whatever quests you think make sense for that character. Retire that character (I'd move them to another folder, rather than delete them altogether) and start a new and different character.

But repeatedly restarting at level 3, or even level 8, is a sign of a problem to me. Restarting once or twice just means you're figuring out what kind of character you wanna play. Restarting more than that indicates either quasi-OCD, or just not getting the game.

I restarted Oblivion when I started playing the game again after a long break. I just felt it would be better to start afresh rather than try to pick up the game again.

I have restarted Skyrim once so far. It will seem silly but I wanted to start the game by following Ralof, and I also wanted to change my character from Dark elf (She was level 20) to a Nord (I have played Elves a lot in games, so I wanted to play something different)

I have kept my old saves in case I changed my mind, but so far I am glad that I have not. I feel like my first game is a learning experience, and the second time I am doing things better.

This is sensible. I'm working on finishing the MQ with my Nord warrior character, and once I do he'll likely retire. Then I'll take a break, play some MW3, finish Mass Effect 2 before ME3 comes out, and then I'll come back and play the next character, who I've already about 90% worked out in my head.

I have this problem with just about every game I play.
This time in Skyrim I've gotten around it so far by playing 5 very different characters, each as the urge takes me.

I had restartitis until I had made characters of all races I like in all possible playstyles. Now when I feel my current character is boring I just load another save and here we go!

I've got the same disease. I only managedf to play out the game with one character. I love to restart and experiment.

For me the reason is: the first 10-20 levels are exciting. :tes:
- Money has value.
- Opponents are dangerous.
- Choices in character development are real
- a different weapon, piece of armour or enchanted ring still make a difference
- where to go first?

After that, it gets a bit bland.

I'm still having fun at level 37 with my Nord warrior, who has now basically become similar to a classic Western hero, wandering Skyrim and taking care of bad guys wherever he finds them. I am getting the itch to do something completely different from the way I've played before with Oblivion and Skyrim - a completely magic reliant toon who wears nothing but robes and carries no weapon heavier than a dagger. I've really never invested myself in figuring out magic beyond the most basic stuff in either game (well, I did use alchemy like crazy in Oblivion), so I think I'm just going to go all magic this time (starting on novice).

The highest level I've been on this game so far is 13 and that was only because I felt like using a trainer once. I can't for the life of me decide on a character build. I also have a tendency to completely and utterly forget what I'm doing if I'm ever interrupted while I play and it throws me to the point I can't keep a character anymore. I have issues, lol. To this day I have never completed a main quest in any Elder Scrolls game and I've had every one since Daggerfall.

I can't understand restartitis...doesn't it get boring and tedious to create a character, work your way thru the first set of quests and level up halfway, then repeat the same process repeatedly? One time you have to see at least the main quest thru to completion. If you complete it every time then restart that has to be even worse..it's like watching your favorite part of your favirite movie until you get sick of it and never want to watch again

I do this too. I've been retiring my characters in the low 30's. I just want to explore all the different builds with different races and Skyrim is big enough that I'm on my 6th character now and am still stumbling into locations and stuff that's new. I also really love the first 20 Levels of any Bethesda game. I love not having anything and each little thing you do has a real impact for your character. I keep the last save from my other characters if I want to go back to them later. I intend to make a character for each race at least. I'm on an Argonian Alchemist/Alteration build and am really enjoying it.

You do different quests & explore different areas of the map with each new character with different builds. On my 6th build now and all have been very different and interesting. That's what makes TES games so much fun: replay-ability.

Couple tips:
Don't take enchanting, or smithing perks (other than arcane smithing)
Increase difficulty as you level up. (unless you're starting on Master....)
Keep your character restricted to certain ideals to keep them from becoming masters of all.
