Restarting Character Addiction

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 2:27 pm

Hello,

Does anyone here same as me. Had restart his or her character couple of time without really venturing as far into Skyrim quests.

Well, i had been restarting mine for over ten times either of game bug like quests being unable to complete, npc missing so on.

My first character male nord, a hero roleplay came in mind but i restarted due to me turning evil by mistake and ended up fell into wanted list. Also to try new mod, so create an female nord later on.

The female nord got me into level 45 with alot of main, major and side quest, as well as maxing smith and enchant perks. Got dragon armor hehe. But then something happen, got annoyed, decided to restart my female nord. So and this weird habit exist ! This restarting goes a few time, dragon not spawning due to mods conflict, so on.

And this is my over ten times of restarting my female nord. Lol, this time round missing key in my pocket after replacing loots mods. Because the missing keys number went into Alva House Key. Which show up as Alva House Keys [8].

Lol. 145 hours.

No dude I'm the same way with my Nord for some reason.

It can be his lips, hair color, a certain scar, what have you.. I just can't make up my mind I'm picky. Any char. I do that really... but my Nord has been remade the most (and only).

IDK what it is.. even now I'm having difficulty making my Khajiit cause I don't know what play style I want..

You're not alone. I've restarted for stupid reasons like "I don't like the way my character's nose looks" after I get to Riverwood. Or perhaps I second guess the race or some other reason. I've lost track of how many characters I've started but it's over 20.

Same with me I get really picky early on with looks and perks so I end up making the same character over and over. One other reason might be the Character Creator is awesome (could spend hours with that thing)

Yeah, some of the fun of the game is redefining how you play the game through different characters.

the hardest part of the game isn't the main quest neither is killing dragons. The hardest part is to pass the creation screen.

you must find the beginning of the game to have more immersion then the end game.

This is so true! I've feel like I've done the first couple quests around Whiterun and Riverwood a million times! My sig doesn't even begin to describe the number of characters I've taken to level 4-9 and just bagged completely.

I feel more immersed in the game at the beginning when I am stuck with rudimentary weapons/armor/spells and very quickly get too wrapped up with increasing levels or having the best possible sword that I lose immersion that way.

Any suggestions for a new playthrough to keep that immersion? (Besides staying away from crafting, which is difiicult to do)

I have a Breton and a Nord that are still hanging out in Riverwood. Haven't really decided what they are going to do yet.

I had this problem before. Back when it was possible to make irreversible choices. Like picking major skills.

Now you can fix any character just by leveling skills on summoned creatures.

It took me many many times to finally settle on a character and many many hours.

Definitely not. I've heard it called alt-aholism. I like the beginning and building up phase of most games I play unduly. I would play all the Resident Evils aiming for speed run target times to get infinite this or that and save those. But even though I might play a time or two with the overpowered just for the "ha ha I'm god now" kicks, I always found it far more fun and appealing to start out again with just your knife and one heal spray.

In Skyrim, it was at first more of feeling out runs. Then start over to apply some of what I learned. Scattered throughout my saves are critical turnpoint saves from numerous restarted versions. One objective that I've found the same was trying to get as much out of the first few levels before I out leveled the usefulness of my character type's mainstay spells (illusion, primarily fury, but also the version of raise dead I had at the start). I feel like the leveling happens way too fast. I never pick any of the skill learning speed boost stones and never sleep for bonus anymore.

I also enjoy taking on challenges like getting Krosis killed at low levels and looting him while escaping the giant and mammoths I dupe into killing him. Another fun one is the mad dash through Raldbthar (dwemer ruins west of Windhelm), a crazy blatantly intentional effort to get as many dwemer spheres and spiders on my tail. Then lead them all to the giant whirling fan blade trap further in without getting pinned in and dying along the way. Finally, if you got mad Mario hopping skills and good timing, you make it to the top without getting creamed by the blades yourself. Then you treat yourself to the awesome sight of dwemer sphere baseball.

In Skyrim, It's more like refining the idea of the most efficient way of building up the type of character I play. But I enjoyed the sneaking more when I absolutely had to keep to the deepest shadows, take off all armor weight, and muffle was crucial more than 100 sneak when I can all but put on creaky, rusty heavy armor and sneak up to a person from right in front of them carrying a torch and backstab them. The name of most every RPG is the journey. The fun is the building up, so it always is fun to do it again.

I'm proud of myself though, this latest playthrough I finally passed level 12 and am 28 and listener of the Dark Brotherhood. On the other hand, the uphill trek is over, the hill has leveled out and now all the world is open to me. After a manner of speaking, it kind of isn't as fun as the way up to now. And except for going to the first point the main character Max Von Sydow voices and the woman you meet in the Riverwood inn acompany you on one of those many abandoned characters, I've not done any of the main quest yet at all. I've never even begun the Companions questline and only joined the Thieves Guild to have access to the fence. There's still so much to do.

I found that picking a playstyle and character build that you have never or rarely ever have used. If you're always a mage, pick a pure warrior, if you're a battlemage, pick something more strict in it's role. It helps me anyway.

absolutely. in fact, with morrowind and oblivion i never felt the need to roleplay like i absolutely have to with skyrim. that has good and bad points, but, the best point is that i'm doing exactly what you suggested: rping characters i've never done in the past and really getting into the mindset.

my next character will be an argonian assassin who dabbles in lots of magic. that is a build i don't think i've ever made.

skyrim does a good job of allowing (forcing? lol) me to strictly roleplay.

I kind of wish there was an option to modify your character just before you left Helgen to make sure everything looks right. The lighting at the chopping block is deceptive. I'll think something looks right, but when my character is cut from their binds and can view my character indoors, that's when I discover oddities with my character's appearance. For instance, some of the haircuts have ponytails, which are impossible to see until you can pan around your character. Also, it's difficult to see how shadows bounce off my character's facial features until I'm indoors.

But considering I've restarted about a hundred times, I consider myself skilled enough to know how to compensate for these differences.

what happens with me is that i have a specific vision of what i want the character to be. then i make him, think he fits the role and start. the trouble starts when i start playing and thinking how ugly he is or something that seems off.

i have learned lately that the best thing to do is come very vague idea then make them look as bland as possible. do not add any features that stand out, just make something that seems normal. finally when you start playing you sort of give your character his own feel.

Well, I have about 4 characters, but I've only restarted once(sort of). I had a Breton mage character that I restarted once I got to level 30. When I created him on 11.11.11, I found out about 3 hours after creation that I forgot to give him a beard. I didn't feel like restarting so I just kept on going. The fact that he was beardless ate away at me until I was forced to start over after about 80 hours of gameplay. Instead of making my next character a Breton though, I restarted as a Nord mage (with an awesome beard) and I love it.
