Retrieving stolen goods

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 8:55 pm

Does anyone know how to retrieve items stolen out of a base camp chest? I used the house of my follower Faendal from Riverwood as my base camp and like an idiot used his house to hord all my goods and aparantly got robbed. Bethesda said it could either be a glitch or my stuff got stolen. Anyone have any idea of what to do or how to get it back? I use the PS3 version too if that matters at all.

I never knew your stuff could get stolen... perhaps the house containers reset or something... Do containers in this game even reset at all??

Faendal's house respawns, which means no container within it is safe for storing your items. Your items have been permanently deleted from your game, and the only way to get them back is to load up an old save from before the cell reset. Or remember each important item and use the console to give yourself a new version, if you're on PC.

I thought that sometimes the loading screen tells you not to leave items in certain areas like a random chests in caves and places like that.

Oh yeah i def remember seeing on the loading screen that items can be taken if you place it in someone elses occupied home. I just figured that since Faendal was my companion and I can use his bed to sleep as well as take the items from his house without getting in trouble for stealing then all my stuff would be safe! This is a real pain because a couple of daedric items were stolen as well as one of my Dragon Priest masks!

Does the Arch- Mages quarters in Winterhold reset too?? I completed the "eye of magus" quest and am now the arch-mage so they gave me the quarters to use as my own. Do I run a risk of that room resetting too??

I'm assuming that the Deadric items you've lost and your Dragon Priest Mask can't be obtained in the game again, so sounds to me like an old re-load is required. Bummer.

Stuff left at his house will definitely permanently disappear if you do not enter the cell for 10 in game days or more. He can be a follower, but you cannot marry him, and to be able to use a follower's house you need to marry them and elect for both of you to live in their house.

If you are the Arch Mage, then the quarters belong to you and are safe.

Sorry, bub. The game ate your loot. Always check with the UESP first to see if a container is safe.

I don't think it would reset after you take his place. Since that room is yours now.

Thanks for the help everybody. I'm kicking myself but you live and you learn. The hard way in this case...
