Returing the game, never buying another Bethesda again!

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 11:12 am

I can't believe that Bethesda has somehow gotten all of you to pay $60 to test for them. Did you know that most software companies pay people to do testing. This is ridiculous and completely unacceptable. If you bought a car and it broke down on you to the point that you could only drive it for the first 20 hours, would you try and find the problem and report it to the manufacturer. Then wait around for them to fix it? No, you'd return the damn car.

I've wasted more than 30 hours of my life in what I was really hoping was going to be a great game. I can waste no more time hoping that the next patch fixes everything, and oh by the way I lose even more money, because if I return it within the first 30 days I get a better percentage back.

Wake up people, if we all returned the damn game, Bethesda would release a working patch tomorrow. And guarantee they'd find a way to ensure you don't lose any saves!

So I'm returning it Bethesda and you've lost my business forever.

If everyone returned the game tomorrow, Bethesda wouldn't need to release a patch.... Since, you know, none of us would be playing the game any more.

No they wouldn't. They'll take as long as it takes, it's not a conspiracy to make you continue to wait, while they sit there laughing saying "hahahaha, look at this guy, he can't play the game! We're all having so much fun playing our working copies with this patch we've had that fixes everything for a month now!"

It's true the DLC issue is fixed for the PC with their incremental patch that came out, but you can blame Microsoft for not making patches more easily accessible on the XBox for that.

Yes but now there is no incentive to make a patch. They don't get paid more to make free patches. Unless you make it a monetary incentive for them to make a patch they will put little to no resources into doing it.

They never did fix the original FO3 game breaking bugs. They figure once they got your money they are done. To this day I can't finish the FO3 main quest because the "waters of life" part of the main quest freezes every single time. I can do other things just not the main game. I wonder when that patch is comming? My guess is never.

Strange, I played an unpatched FO3 (the original disc, used, not the GOTY edition) and completed the main quest twice and two DLCs. You're right that patch isn't coming because they've moved on, and clearly it's also something that's not effecting as many people as this DLC one is apparently.

Anyway, they've said they're working on it, the NV patch to fix the DLC is coming. It may not fix all the quest bugs, maybe certain quests will be broken forever (depending on the path you take), but it'll fix the DLC issue and the freezing getting into Vegas, the two big ones. If you're skeptical... then sure, go return the game. But it's not going to hurry things up.

You know what svcks the most about the whole problem? That it's not like I can truly return the game for my money back. The best i can do is get $25 back for a trade at PnT or Gamestop. So one way or another I'm screwed. So the lesson here is, don't buy Bethesda anymore, or not at launch at least. I'll wait 3 months before buying any game from Bethesda again. By that time the price will have dropped, I can find one used, and I can be sure that 95% of the game will work without any serious game ending issues.

I don't think that they are conducting a conspiracy and laughing about it. But I'm sure they've certainly taken notice that they sold a lot of copies and there hasn't been any real repercussions from the incredible number of issues their customers are having. Why don't they come out in an official press release on the New Vegas official site and apologize at least. I would be much happier at least to hear that they understand our issues and are working hard to fix them. And that feel bad for what happened and they promise us, their loyal customers, that they won't let it happen again. Furthermore, I think they should work on getting out a patch sooner than 12/21. That's just too long and they have leverage to demand that MS release the patch sooner. So that's no excuse either.

Do the right thing Bethesda! At least apologize!

Dont think a mere apology is going to do much.
What should happen is that Bethesda should be forced to also release the upcoming patch on a disc aswell as online. And they should produce loads of these discs and distribute them to all retailers that sell the game. This is for those people who literally have no internet access. And the cost of doing this should come out of Bethesda's wallet.

You're 100% correct and I hadn't even thought about that. Of course we all know this will never happen. Great job Bethesda!

Most game problems are bugs, which only occur sometimes. For instance you said you couldn't complete the waters of life. I could. You have a bug. Bugs are harder to find as they only SOMETIMES occur. Game testers cannot get every last bug. It's impossible. They get a large amount of glitches and bugs, but not all of them. When you buy a game from Beth you're of course going to run into a lot of bugs because of the sheer size of their games. Cool down and wait till a patch is released if you are so frustrated with the game. OR make a new game and try and some of these bugs/glitches may not occur.

Huh... Rockstar did a great job with Red Dead Redemption. That was a big game too, so no, it's not impossible to make a big game that works in a respectable condition.

Returning your game is inane...and for software a no-no. Instead just don't buy future games and remain vocal ELSEWHERE where it has some impact.

You are aware this whole thing isn't Bethesda's fault right? It's Obsidian's, they developed the game, Bethesda only published it. Looks like you're just gonna have to wait it out with the rest of us.

The waters of life bug is fairly common too though. Just google "waters of life freezing" and see how many hits you get.

It is allot and Bethesda basically just said the equivalent of tough $#!+ and never acted on it. It isn't like they don't make enough money to put someone on it and fix their faulty game(s).

It isn't inane. If you return the game you won't be stuck with a lemon that you can't play. Also if they aren't able to patch the game you have your money (or at least store credit) and not 60 clams down the tubes.

If they do patch the game by some miracle you can always re-purchase it, and maybe for less in the bargain bin or used.

It makes allot of sense in that way. Sure you returning the game just to "punish" Bethesda won't work (they already sold millions), other than that it makes sense.

BTW I just returned mine yesterday to GameStop. I didn't even have the receipt any more. I explained the issue and they granted me store credit for the full amount. Now I can get a game that WORKS and if a patch ever materializes I can always get it back, if no working patch then I am shut of it.

Yeah I returned mine to EB Games for full price (7 day return policy). If and when they release a fully patched and working GOTY ed for cheap I will pick it up again.

Live and learn. Broke my own rules about buying a game like this early instead of waiting for the now inevitable patches, fixes and bugs to sort themselves out. Won't make that mistake again.

No, it isn't. I know of several game stores that has stopped selling some titles because of the high return rates they were facing. In some way, it does have an effect on that particular market . . .

I bought Farcry 2 when first released and after around 20 hours of play my saved games became corrupted so I shelved the game. A patch was released a few months later and I'm on my 3rd playthrough because it is such a huge game (like Fallout series) and was worth the wait to be fixed.

The continued "whinning" does not speed up the patching/updating process so put on your big boy pants, and wait for the game to be patched, and go play another game like Farcry, Fallout 3, or COD/BO, which is a great experiance by the way... because all this "I'm never buying another game from this company again" is not only silly, but no one cares, just like your parents did when you had to wait for your fudgesicle after you ate your dinner!

Nuff said...now back to some Farcry 2!

"were all having so much fun playing our working copies with this patch that fixes everything"? YOU may be having so much fun playing, and YOU'RE problems may have been fixed with that pathetic excuse for a patch, but that does not mean everyone else is, unless you are a mind reader of some sort, which you are obviously not, considering you must not be able to read too well, or you would know that there are MANY of us who either got no benefit from that patch, or MANY whose problems only got worse. unbelievable.

hey that's [censored]. Bethesda put their name on the game, Bethesda put their name on the guide, the way i see it, if they are making money off of this disaster, they should have worked harder to oversee Obsidian's attention to quality. it is just as much Bethesda's fault that this has happened as it is Obsidian's. how any of you can state otherwise is beyond me. it would be funny, if it were not so pathetic.

I don't care how long the patch takes. There are other games to play in the mean time.

I would rather them take their time bringing out a patch if it means the bugs get fixed.
If they rush the patch then it's very likely that it would cause more bugs and glitches than it fixes.

normally, i would agree with you. but the fact that they are releasing a new DLC pack called 'Dead Money"(a name which i find amusing, as that is what will happen to your cash if you buy this add-on, considering the original game is still messed up) which clearly shows me that Bethesda has made this their priority rather than this mythical patch, mythical in the sense i don't even think it exists as of yet.

yeah, you're just a big tough talker aren't you egghead? Obsidian used Bethesda tech to make the game, Bethesda oversaw Obsidian making the game, and lastly, as i have already pointed out(i guess you and your great intellect missed this) Bethesda put their damn name on the game itself! if Bethesda even made a dime off of NV, then this is just as much their fault as it is Obsidian's. so i would say that the only ignorant imbecile is you.
